Pig price in the South increased by the highest 2,000 VND/kg, the North caused surprise

The price of live pigs today, January 23, increased/decreased 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg nationwide, fluctuating between 51,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

* The live pig market in the North reversed and decreased in price in some localities.

Specifically, after a reduction of VND 1,000/kg, localities including Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Binh and Vinh Phuc all purchased live pigs at VND 56,000/kg.

Similarly, live pigs in Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang provinces also decreased by VND2,000/kg, down to VND55,000/kg. This is also the purchase price recorded in Hanoi after being adjusted down by VND3,000/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 55,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

* According to records, pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions are adjusted differently in different localities.

Accordingly, Thanh Hoa province is currently trading live pigs at 54,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg. Similarly, Quang Binh has lowered the purchase price to 52,000 VND/kg, down slightly by 1,000 VND/kg.

On the contrary, Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces both traded live pigs at 52,000 VND/kg, up slightly by 1,000 VND/kg. With the same increase, live pigs in Lam Dong province were adjusted to 55,000 VND/kg.

After increasing by 2,000 VND/kg, traders in Binh Dinh and Dak Lak purchased live pigs at 53,000 VND/kg and 55,000 VND/kg, respectively.

With the highest increase of 3,000 VND/kg, the price of live pigs in the two provinces of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan is 54,000 VND/kg and 55,000 VND/kg, respectively.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 52,000 - 56,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, the price of live pigs increased by the highest 2,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, after increasing by VND2,000/kg, the price of live pigs in the provinces of Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Vung Tau increased to around VND54,000 - 56,000/kg, depending on the region.

In the three provinces of Dong Thap, An Giang and Bac Lieu, the price of live pigs increased slightly by VND 1,000/kg, reaching a common level of VND 51,000/kg - the lowest in the region.

With the same increase of 1,000 VND/kg is Kien Giang province, currently the price of live pigs is traded at 52,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 51,000 - 56,000 VND/kg.

* In its latest report, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised global pork production in 2024 down 1% from its October 2023 forecast to 114.2 million tonnes due to lower output in China, the European Union (EU) and Brazil.

Accordingly, world pork output in 2024 is expected to reach 114.2 million tons, down 0.9% compared to total output in 2023 (115.2 million tons).

Global exports are expected to increase by 1.8% this year from 10 million tonnes to 10.2 million tonnes in 2023. Imports will reach 9.7 million tonnes in 2024, up 5.4% from the previous year (9.2 million tonnes). Consumption is expected to decline by 0.6% from 114.5 to 113.8 million tonnes.
