On the contrary, the lowest price in the region of 60,000 VND/kg was recorded in Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh, and Tuyen Quang.

61,000 VND/kg is the price of live pigs being purchased by traders in the provinces of Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh, and Ha Nam.

In this area, the price of live pigs today is quiet and fluctuates between 58,000 - 61,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, the highest price in the region of 61,000 VND/kg was recorded in Lam Dong and Binh Thuan.

On the other hand, the lowest price in the region of 58,000 VND/kg was recorded in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa.

In other localities in the region, the price of live pigs today fluctuates around 59,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.

In the Southern region, the price of live pigs today is stable across the board and fluctuates between 58,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, the highest price in the region of 62,000 VND/kg was recorded in Dong Thap.

On the other hand, the lowest price in the region of 58,000 VND/kg was recorded in Vinh Long, Can Tho, and Ben Tre.

In other localities in the region, the price of live pigs today fluctuates around 59,000 - 61,000 VND/kg.

In general, during the past week (April 8-14), the price of live pigs did not fluctuate much. Recorded on the weekend of April 14, 2024, the average price of live pigs in the Northern region stood at 60,610 VND/kg; in the Central - Central Highlands region stood at 59,420 VND/kg; in the Southern region stood at 59,570 VND/kg.

The Department of Livestock Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the average price of live pigs for slaughter in 2023 was nearly 53,800 VND/kg, 5.6% lower than the average for the whole year of 2022. In January 2024, the price of live pigs increased rapidly in the last 3 weeks of the month in 63 provinces and cities nationwide, bringing the average price to 53,000 VND/kg. Then it increased by about 3,000 - 4,000 VND/kg in February, so the average price in February was about 56,000 VND/kg. This price continued to increase steadily in March, the average price for the whole month reached 58,100 VND/kg.

Thus, since the beginning of 2024 until now, the price of live pigs has increased by about 10,000 VND/kg, this price continued to increase slightly in the last days of March 2024 and is currently at 58,000 - 62,000 VND/kg depending on the locality. In recent days, while the price in the North has tended to decrease slightly by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, the price in the South has increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in Vietnam at the end of March and the beginning of April 2024 was about 10,000 VND/kg higher than that of China.

Comparing the average price of live pigs in the same period in March in the past 3 years, it shows that in 2024, the price of pigs remained the highest (up 16.3% compared to March 2022 and up 7.3% compared to 2021). The main reason is that although the supply is still guaranteed, consumption among people and collective kitchens has increased and especially we are better controlling the situation of smuggled pigs into Vietnam.

Comparing the average price of live pigs in the first quarter of the past 3 years, the average price in the first quarter of 2024 was nearly 5,000 VND/kg higher (up 9.7%) than in the same period in 2023. With the current production cost ranging from 45,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, the current selling price of products in the first quarter of 2024 is profitable for pig farmers.
