The 2026 International Pig Veterinary Conference (IPVS 2026) will be held in Vietnam
Pig farming has always played an important role in agriculture to provide food for people around the world. Along with the increase in demand due to population growth and economic development, the total pork production must be increased in quantity and quality on a global scale. High technologies have been applied to increase productivity and have achieved significant results, however, the problem of disease is always a big challenge for the industry. Diseases are no longer localized but have the ability to spread between countries and continents in today's connected world.
To overcome these challenges, those working in the field of pig husbandry and veterinary medicine around the world must come together to share experiences, knowledge, perspectives and opportunities towards the goal of developing the livestock industry and managing the health of sustainable pig herds. That is also the reason why the global pig health organization IPVS (International Pig Veterinary Society) was founded in 1967 with the first conference held in Cambridge, UK in 1969. Since then, every 2 years, individuals interested in pig husbandry and veterinary medicine around the world have gathered at the conference. To date, there have been 27 conferences and in many countries across all continents and the 27th conference will be held in Germany in June 2024.
Hosting the conference is a great honor for a country in a major “playground” of the world. It is also a recognition of the development not only of the pig veterinary industry but also of many other fields of the country. In addition, with a large number of attendees from all over the world (it is estimated that the number of delegates participating in the scientific seminars in the Conference alone will be more than 3,000 people), organizing the conference is also an opportunity for the tourism industry and the image of the country and its people, contributing significantly to the economy and diplomacy of the country. To be able to host the IPVS conference, a pig health organization of that country must write an organization plan with all the reasons why the conference should be held here and the capacity profile of the submitting agency. This profile is presented to the IPVS General Assembly and must compete with other candidate countries.
Vietnam has a developed pig farming industry over many years with the total number of pigs currently ranking 5th in the world. Many generations of experts and people working in the field of pig veterinary farming in the country always hope that one day Vietnam will host this meaningful conference. With the efforts of the entire Vietnamese pig veterinary farming community and Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry in the recent past, the IPVS Executive Board has approved the right to host the 28th IPVS Conference in 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City from June 16 to 19, 2026, with Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry as the main organizer. This is a great event and a joy and pride for the pig veterinary farming community in Vietnam that the organizer - Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - wants to share with the community. This conference promises to be a place to bring useful information and successful connection opportunities for related units and individuals in the pig farming industry.
