Extending the suspension period for the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province

The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province has been temporarily suspended from work for another 15 working days, starting from August 21, 2024, to serve the inspection of the organization of the entrance exam for grade 10 high school.

Pursuant to legal regulations and at the request of the Department of Home Affairs, the People's Committee of Thai Binh province has just issued a Decision on extending the temporary suspension of the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province from August 21.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Thai Binh province issued Decision No. 1356/QD-UBND dated August 20, 2024 on extending the temporary suspension period for Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province to serve the inspection of the organization of the entrance exam for grade 10 high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Thai Binh from August 21, 2024, the extended period of temporary suspension is 15 working days.

During the inspection period, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien is responsible for strictly implementing the decision to extend the temporary suspension from work; providing full information and relevant documents and complying with the requests of the Head of the inspection team and competent authorities as prescribed.

Previously, on July 31, the People's Committee of Thai Binh province issued Decision No. 1234/QD-UBND on temporarily suspending Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien from work for 15 days to serve the inspection of the organization of the 10th grade High School Entrance Exam.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year in Thai Binh took place from June 7-8 with over 20,500 candidates participating at 30 examination councils. After the Department of Education and Training announced the results of the re-examination of exam scores, parents of students questioned the grading process with many exams having scores skyrocketing, and the exam results not reflecting the true abilities of the students.

In response to complaints from parents and public opinion, Thai Binh province has conducted an inspection of the exam organization.

After the inspection, it was determined that 1,589 candidates had incorrect total admission scores; 243 candidates changed from being admitted to not being admitted.

The Inspection Team recommended that the People's Committee of Thai Binh province continue to direct units to clearly identify the shortcomings, limitations, violations, and responsibilities of organizations and individuals in the process of performing tasks at all stages of organizing the exam; extend the suspension period for Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien, Director of the Department of Education and Training to serve the inspection work.
