Tri has an older sister, Nguyen Ngoc Trang (born in 1991), who participated in the 8th year of Road to Olympia. Tri's brother-in-law (Ngoc Trang's husband), Tran Van Ngoc Tan (born in 1989, former student of Dien Ban High School, Quang Nam) is also a contestant in the 7th year of this program. Ngoc Trang and Ngoc Tan met when they both participated in the 10th year of Gala Olympia. This family holds the record for having the most people participating in the Road to Olympia competition.

After Olympia, Ngoc Trang chose to study at the Foreign Trade University, while Ngoc Tan studied at the University of Technology - Ho Chi Minh National University. After that, both of them studied abroad to improve their knowledge and expertise. Huu Tri chose to study at Hanoi University. Sharing with VietNamNet , Nguyen Huu Tri said that those were beautiful memories of his family. "The two of them knew each other before. Later, when I was in high school, my sister suggested that I take part in the competition and I registered for Olympia. Tan and Trang both made it to the monthly round, while I only stopped at the weekly round," Tri recalled.

Currently, Ngoc Tan and Ngoc Trang live and work in Norway; and Huu Tri lives and works in Japan. The common point of all 3 is that they all work in information technology. Besides this case, there are some other families where both brothers participated in Olympia such as: Phan Minh Duc (10th year) and Phan Thi Phuong Thao (13th year); Le Thanh Tan Nhat (18th year) and Le Thanh Quy Hai (21st year);...
