On December 7, the leader of Quang Tri Electricity Company said that in recent days, the unit has received complaints from a number of customers about receiving phone calls from strange numbers. The callers claimed to be electricity employees, asking customers to pay their electricity bills urgently and instructing them to transfer money to their personal accounts, provide account information, personal information, and add Zalo friends.
These people threaten to cut off electricity if customers do not pay or do not comply with their requests. The fake phone numbers recorded according to customer feedback include 035383xxxx 099646xxxx, 077649xxxx.
Leaders of Quang Tri Electricity Company recommend that when customers receive any calls from strangers asking to pay electricity bills (including phone numbers with domestic and international area codes), they absolutely do not transfer money to accounts without verifying the information; do not provide account information, personal information, or add friends on Zalo to avoid being scammed.
The phone numbers of the electricity company calling customers are all registered at the Central Electricity Customer Care Center. If you receive a suspicious call, please contact the hotline number 19001909 for verification support.
A similar phenomenon has occurred in Ho Chi Minh City. At the Customer Appreciation Month announcement ceremony held on the afternoon of December 5, Mr. Nguyen Tan Hung - Head of Communications Department of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) said that recently, the city's Electricity sector has received many reports about impersonating EVNHCMC employees to defraud people.
Mr. Hung said that the fraud appears in the form of sending messages or calling customers, informing them that they have paid less, paid the wrong electricity bill, provided incorrect information, paid the wrong electricity bill to the wrong account, threatened to cut off the electricity bill because they have not paid the electricity bill... Then, they ask to be friends via Zalo to provide technical support and then send a link, asking customers to activate it to adjust the information. Many leaders of EVNHCMC also received the above fraudulent messages.
“ Customers only pay electricity bills through official channels or EVNHCMC customer service application or banks, absolutely do not pay electricity bills through personal accounts. When having questions about the services of the Electricity industry, customers can directly contact EVNHCMC customer care hotline at 1900545454 for answers,” said Mr. Hung.
More than a week ago, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) advised customers to be vigilant against calls claiming to be from electricity employees with the aim of defrauding and appropriating property, affecting the reputation of the electricity industry.
The bad guys impersonate electricity employees and ask them to access strange links to install fake apps, then instruct customers to connect the fake app to their bank accounts and withdraw all the money in their bank accounts. If the customers refuse to install the fake app, the impersonators immediately threaten to cut off the electricity and use insulting words.
