Captain Luan sent out a distress signal, then jumped into the sea with the fishermen, holding life buoys and waiting for rescue. A nearby fishing boat from Binh Dinh approached and rescued 8 crew members, one of whom was injured in the leg. One person is missing.
The fishermen said the incident happened at night so they could not identify the cargo ship, only that it was 80-100 meters long, had a black body, and a white cabin. The fishing boat had departed from Man Quang wharf, Da Nang city on March 1.
Thuan Nam District People's Committee has directed functional forces to work with the crew of the ship in distress to verify information, notify relevant units and ships operating near the area to coordinate in searching for the missing people.
Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority has also informed maritime port authorities and inland waterway port authorities to search for the ship that caused the accident for handling.
