Three dentures slipped out of a patient's jaw and drifted into his esophagus. Doctors had to intubate and anesthetize him to remove them.
On January 8, Dong Nai General Hospital announced that it had just treated a case of a denture that had slipped out of the jaw and got stuck in the esophagus.
After 1.5 hours, the doctors successfully removed the foreign object.
The patient is Ms. NTMN (59 years old, residing in Dinh Quan District, Dong Nai) admitted to the hospital on January 7 with a sore throat and difficulty eating and drinking.
Through examination and CT scan, doctors at the Endoscopy Department - Dong Nai General Hospital discovered that the patient's esophagus had a foreign object stuck there, causing ulcers, with the risk of esophageal perforation and complications.
The doctors decided to intubate and anesthetize the patient to remove the foreign object. After 1 hour and 30 minutes, the foreign object was successfully removed. It was 3 false teeth with iron hooks.
According to Dr. Huynh Phuc Hung, Head of the Endoscopy Department, in the above case, if the foreign object cannot be removed, surgery will be required, but the esophageal area is very difficult to heal, causing pain and prolonging the patient's treatment time.
