Urgent search for 73 missing people

Lao Cai province is focusing on implementing search and rescue and disaster relief work in localities. In particular, in Bao Yen district, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee are directly directing search and rescue work after a particularly serious flash flood and landslide at 6:00 a.m. on September 10 in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune.

According to Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, as of 9:00 a.m. on September 11, the entire Lang Nu village had 167 households/760 people.

The landslide area has 37 households/154 people and 4 people from other places, including 3 people over 70 years old, 18 children under 6 years old, 14 children under 14 years old.

After checking, so far the authorities have determined that 22 people have died, 17 injured people are being treated. Currently, the authorities are still urgently searching for 73 missing people. 46 people have been confirmed safe.

Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary Dang Xuan Phong and Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Chairman Trinh Xuan Truong are directly directing disaster relief and search and rescue work.

The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has directed Bao Yen district to establish a forward command post in the flash flood area to promptly direct the work of overcoming consequences, searching and rescuing victims.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong also requested the district to identify and clarify the terrain and hydrology of the area where flash floods and landslides occurred, and to make detailed statistics of the damage so that search and rescue work can be effective; along with that, attention must be paid to ensuring the safety of the forces.

The district needs to urgently direct units to deploy vehicles and human resources to overcome traffic disruptions and ensure communication so that rescue work can be carried out smoothly. Division 316 of Military Region 2 has sent 200 soldiers to support search and rescue work.

In addition, 80 mobile police officers of the Mobile Police Command in Lao Cai participated in disaster relief and search and rescue; 200 students from Lao Cai College went to the district to help people overcome natural disasters.

Currently, Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital and Lao Cai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital are increasing 13 medical staff to support Bao Yen District General Hospital in treating the victims.

The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee noted that the forces need to do a good job of coordination and cooperation, calculate plans for human resource allocation, and arrange appropriate forces./.
