Nearly 1,600 elderly people in Nghe An take on the position of Party cell secretaries

(Dan Tri) - According to the report, Nghe An province has 2,432 elderly people holding Party positions at the grassroots level, of which 1,595 are Party Cell Secretaries.

On the morning of November 6, the Nghe An Provincial Association of the Elderly held a conference to summarize the movement "Outstanding elderly people participating in building the grassroots political system" for the period 2019-2024.

According to the report at the conference, Nghe An province has 2,432 elderly people holding positions in the Party at the grassroots level, of which 1,595 are Party cell secretaries. There are 1,687 elderly members participating as heads and deputy heads of villages, hamlets, and blocks, of which 1,141 have held the position for 5 years or more.

Besides, more than 8,000 elderly members participate in building the Fatherland Front and local socio-political organizations.

Despite their old age and limited health, when assigned tasks, the elderly have used all their abilities and experience to carry them out and have made many important contributions in many areas of local activities.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lap, Head of the Elderly Care Department, Vietnam Association of the Elderly, acknowledged and highly appreciated the activities of the Association of the Elderly in Nghe An, especially in participating in the grassroots political system.

Representatives of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly also hope that Party committees, authorities, and Associations of the Elderly at all levels will promote elderly care so that the elderly can live happily, healthily, and usefully.

Recognizing the contributions of the elderly to the local socio-economic development, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu, Deputy Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, reminded the Elderly Association to promote propaganda work on the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws.

The Deputy Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee requested all levels, sectors and localities to continue to encourage and create conditions for the elderly to participate in the grassroots political system; pay attention to innovating the content and methods of activities; promote the spirit of humanity and affection; actively participate in patriotic emulation movements; always be exemplary, becoming a shining example for the younger generation to follow...

On this occasion, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly awarded Certificates of Merit to 12 members, the People's Committee of Nghe An province awarded Certificates of Merit to 21 members and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 members of the Provincial Association of the Elderly.

Nghe An Provincial Association of the Elderly also awarded Certificates of Merit to 94 outstanding members participating in building the grassroots political system.
