The guinea fowl farming model in Ngoc Lac town (Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province) has been bringing income to people, contributing positively to the process of transforming livestock structure and diversifying local agricultural products.

After many failures in livestock investment, in 2022, Mr. Pham Van Huong, Cao Xuan quarter, Ngoc Lac town ( Thanh Hoa province) tested raising nearly 300 guinea fowls.

After more than 4 months of raising, the guinea fowl grew quickly, had few diseases, and a survival rate of 97%, suitable for the local living environment. Realizing that guinea fowl were easy to raise and had good market demand, Mr. Huong invested in expanding the scale of the guinea fowl farm under the canopy of fruit trees with an area of 5,000m2.

In June 2023, Mr. Huong imported 1,000 guinea fowls from Hanoi to raise and they are now growing well, almost reaching commercial size.

Mr. Pham Van Huong said: Over time, raising guinea fowl has shown that it is quite simple to raise and has high resistance. This breed of chicken can be raised in the garden, semi-free range or in captivity.

Guinea fowl's food is very diverse, can use industrial food, rice, corn bran or green vegetables...

In addition, when raising star chickens, the loss rate is low, so you can save on investment costs for breeding stock. During the raising process, you must always strictly follow vaccination and barn hygiene to limit disease. The characteristics of this breed of chicken are flying far and running frequently, so the chicken has firm, delicious meat and is favored by the market.

After 4 months of raising, the average weight of the guinea fowl reaches from 1.5kg to 1.7kg/bird. Currently, the selling price of guinea fowl on the market ranges from 130,000 to 140,000 VND/kg, about 30,000 to 40,000 VND/kg higher than the price of native chicken.

Con động vật lốm đốm,

The guinea fowl farming model of Mr. Pham Van Huong, Cao Xuan quarter, Ngoc Lac town, Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province is highly economically efficient.

Sharing about his upcoming plans, Mr. Huong said that his family currently has about 2.5 hectares of hilly land growing 1,500 mandarin orange trees and 200 guava trees that have been harvested. Taking advantage of this area to raise guinea fowl under the canopy of fruit trees is very suitable.

It is expected that in 2024, the family will invest in expanding the scale of investment in barns to raise 10,000 guinea fowls under the canopy of fruit trees.

Mr. Huong hopes that the local authorities will pay attention and create conditions for him to access loan sources to invest in developing the farm and expanding the scale of livestock farming.

Currently, in Ngoc Lac town, there are about 10 households raising commercial guinea fowl. Initial results show that households have actively changed their livestock, choosing new species that are suitable for local climate conditions and have high economic value.

However, the households mainly develop spontaneously, without investing in a systematic farming system, and are still rudimentary. In addition, as a new breed, it has not yet reached a wide range of consumers.

Mr. Pham Van Dong, Chairman of Ngoc Lac Town People's Committee, said: Recently, the locality has created conditions for people to bid for 5% of land area to invest in developing farm and family economy. Along with that, the town encourages organizations and individuals to import high-value animals for breeding.

The locality also creates favorable conditions for households to access preferential loans, expand production, and promote land potential.

From the initial economic efficiency that the guinea fowl model brings, in the coming time, the town will coordinate with the professional department of Ngoc Lac district to organize training courses to provide technical guidance to people in raising and consuming products.

Thereby, orienting farms to invest in livestock farming according to VietGAP standards to improve product quality, meeting the increasing demands of the market.
