Vietnam women's futsal dreams of World Cup

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên23/11/2024

In the first time the Southeast Asian women's futsal championship was held, the Vietnamese women's futsal team was crowned with emotion. With the reasonable tactics of the coaching staff as well as the determination of the players, the Vietnamese women's futsal team won a dramatic victory over strong opponents Thailand in the final. Notably, this was the first victory of Vietnamese women's futsal against Thailand in an official tournament. At the same time, the girls of Vietnamese futsal also broke the dominance of Thai women's futsal in the regional playground. Previously, the team of the land of golden pagodas won all 5 SEA Games in which women's futsal was held (in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2021), and the Vietnamese futsal team always finished second.

Not only the championship, the victory in the final of the 2024 Southeast Asian women's futsal tournament also helps the Vietnamese women's futsal team to be more confident when facing Thailand again in upcoming tournaments. "Thai women's futsal is at a high level, but Vietnam is not inferior, so the important thing is the mentality of the players when entering the match. Once they have won, the confidence of the Vietnamese futsal players will increase, and they will no longer be hesitant when facing the Thais," said head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang.

Achievements in regional competitions are also a good premise for the Vietnamese women's futsal team to aim to conquer continental tournaments such as the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship (held in China). Accordingly, the 3 teams with the highest achievements in the 2024 Asian Women's Futsal Championship will qualify for the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup (held for the first time). In Asian women's futsal, Japan, Iran and Thailand are the top 3 strongest teams and are also strong candidates for 3 tickets to the World Cup. With what has been shown, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is not out of the race, at least in direct competition with Thailand's women's futsal. Vietnamese girls can absolutely dream of a place in the biggest playground on the planet for women's futsal.

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang said: "The Southeast Asian tournament will be an important motivation and stepping stone for the Vietnamese women's futsal team to aim for better quality tournaments, where there are stronger opponents such as the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship and further, the World Cup. However, there is still much to do. Vietnamese players still need to improve their physical strength."

WHEN WILL THE VIETNAMESE WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM PARTICIPATE IN THE ASIAN QUALIFICATIONS ?

The Vietnamese women's futsal team is expected to regroup from December 16, before participating in the 2025 Asian women's futsal qualifying round. In the qualifying round, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is in Group D with Taiwan, Macau and Myanmar. All matches of Group D - the 2025 Asian women's futsal qualifying round will be held in Myanmar, taking place from January 15 to 20, 2025.

The 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship qualifiers feature 19 teams, divided into four groups (three groups of five teams and one group of four teams), playing in a round-robin format and calculating rankings. The top two teams in each group and the third-placed team with the best record will compete with host China, defending champion (Iran) and defending runner-up (Japan) at the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship.
