The FBI stressed that it was investigating the incident as an assassination attempt, but was also considering it an act of domestic terrorism. The agency said the gun used to shoot Mr. Trump was purchased legally and was an AR Model 556 rifle.

In addition, the FBI said that so far, it has not discovered that the suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks, the person who caused the shooting of Mr. Trump, has a history of mental illness, but affirmed that it will review social media accounts, weapons used in the incident and related DNA evidence.

The FBI said that finding the motive behind the shooting of Mr. Trump is one of the agency's top priorities, warning that threats of violence online have increased, especially since the incident.

According to Reuters, Donald Trump arrived in Milwaukee to campaign as scheduled. Trump wrote on Truth Social: "I was going to postpone my trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by 2 days, but decided I couldn't let a shooter or potential assassin force me to change my schedule or anything else. Therefore, I will be in Milwaukee as scheduled."
