Efforts to ensure progress goes hand in hand with quality

Typically, EVN successfully connected Unit 1 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant Extension to the grid on November 26, 2024, after nearly 3 years of implementation. Currently, Unit 2 has also completed 99% of the equipment installation work, and will continue to connect to the grid before December 21, 2024 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Electricity Industry (December 21, 1954 - December 21, 2024).

The Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project (2 units, total capacity of 360MW) invested by EVN is of great significance in increasing the ability to mobilize capacity for loads in the Southern region, increasing power sources and peak load coverage, increasing operational flexibility, increasing reliability and safety for the national power system, etc.

Another key power source project that EVN is implementing on schedule is the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion (2 units, total capacity of 480MW). This is also a project with a hydroelectric water tunnel through the mountain with a tunnel diameter of nearly 14m. Although there were many difficulties during the implementation process, up to now, the entire construction site is maintaining progress with the goal of generating electricity in 2025.

Regarding the transmission grid, urgent projects to serve the import of electricity from Laos such as: Dak Ooc 220kV switching station, Nam Sum - Nong Cong 220kV line, Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV line, etc. are also being urgently completed by EVN.

Along with projects invested by EVN, there are also many "bright spots" from member units. A typical example is the 500kV line 3 project from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen) invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation. Normally, a similar 500kV grid project must be constructed for at least 3-4 years while the urgent goal set by the Government is to complete this line within 6 months. With the high determination of Vietnam Electricity Group and the National Power Transmission Corporation, the project was inaugurated on August 29, 2024 after more than 6 months of rapid construction.

In addition, many other projects such as the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and Dong Nai Power Company Limited (PC Dong Nai) have successfully energized Phase 1 of the 110kV Long Thanh Airport Transformer Station (TBA) project and connecting lines on November 27, 2024. According to the plan, the transformer station will be energized in the second quarter of 2025, but the project was energized 8 months earlier to ensure power supply for the Long Thanh International Airport Project - a national key project.

Or, the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) coordinated with relevant units to energize the 110kV transformer station of Phong Dien industrial park and connect it 6 months earlier than planned, in order to promptly respond to the load development situation, improve the quality of electricity and reliability of electricity supply for local socio-economic development in accordance with the spirit of "electricity goes one step ahead".

In the first 10 months of 2024 alone, EVN and its units have started construction of 76 projects and completed energizing and putting into operation 102 power grid projects from 110kV to 500kV, including 8 500kV projects, 18 220kV projects and 76 110kV projects.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Tri Long, Economic Expert, the results that EVN has achieved in investing in the construction of large power projects such as the 500kV line 3, or the Son La and Lai Chau hydropower plants in the past and hundreds of other projects are truly outstanding marks. The projects completed on time and ahead of schedule are not only a testament to EVN's determination and management and organizational capacity, but also greatly contribute to improving economic efficiency and reducing waste in construction investment.

Promoting 70 years of tradition

At the National Online Conference of the Government Standing Committee on promoting public investment in 2024 (July 2024), EVN was also one of the units commended by the Prime Minister for having many public investment projects ahead of schedule, making important contributions to socio-economic development in recent times.

To achieve the above results, EVN affirms that it always seriously implements the Party's Resolutions, the State's legal policies, and the Government's Directives on combating waste in all aspects of work, especially in construction investment. The EVN Party Committee has thoroughly grasped, focused on disseminating, widely propagating, raising awareness and responsibility among cadres, party members and workers about the meaning, importance and responsibility of practicing thrift and combating waste.

Economist Nguyen Minh Phong, former Deputy Head of the Theoretical Propaganda Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper, commented: “In difficult conditions, EVN has overcome to accelerate the completion of projects ahead of schedule, demonstrating superiority in the production and distribution system, management and regulation of electricity nationwide, saving a large amount of money, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by public opinion.”
