Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has just sent a document to Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) requesting not to increase coal prices for electricity production.
According to EVN, in 2022 and the first months of 2023, the production, business and financial situation of the group and its member units will face many difficulties due to sudden fluctuations in fuel prices (coal prices, gas prices, oil prices).
"Although EVN and its member units have resolutely implemented internal solutions and recommended that competent authorities consider options to reduce production costs, the average retail electricity price has not been adjusted in a timely manner, causing EVN's electricity production and business results to be at a loss, which will affect electricity supply and ensure energy security," EVN said.
Therefore, EVN proposed that TKV consider not adjusting the price of domestic coal sold for electricity production, and the price of domestic coal in the plan of blending with imported coal.
EVN also wants TKV to fully and continuously supply coal to thermal power plants to ensure production and electricity supply for 2023, in which EVN requests TKV to consider solutions to increase exploitation and supply of domestically produced coal to power generation units.
Previously, on September 5, EVN received a document from TKV regarding the adjustment to increase the selling price of domestic coal for electricity production.
In a recent dispatch, the Prime Minister requested the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises to direct EVN, TKV, and PVN to strengthen coordination and effectively implement contracts for electricity purchase and sale, coal supply, and gas supply; and thoroughly overcome the situation of fragmentation and local interests among units and enterprises under the State Capital Management Committee in electricity production and supply.
EVN, PVN, and TKV corporations strictly implement the direction of the Government Standing Committee, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister on issues related to the operation of the national power system, promptly resolve power source and grid incidents... focus on investing in the development of assigned power source and grid projects, ensuring progress, quality, and efficiency, especially for key and urgent projects.
