Specifically, RIA news agency quoted a European source as saying that sanctions against Moscow will be extended for another 6 months, until the end of January 2025.

The sanctions were previously extended until July 31, 2024.

* Also on July 17, the Swiss government announced that it had opened an investigation into more than 50 cases of possible violations of Russian sanctions. So far, 15 cases of violations have been discovered.

Since Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, Switzerland has applied sanctions similar to those of other Western countries against Moscow.

Most recently, Bern passed new measures earlier this month.

In an email to Reuters , the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) said effective enforcement of sanctions was a government priority.

However, SECO did not specify the sectors involved or the individual companies under investigation.

Switzerland has previously set up a team of experts to investigate and enforce the sanctions imposed by Bern on Moscow.
