Anywhere you go on the central streets of Hanoi these days, people can see historical images of the liberation of the capital 70 years ago on billboards, posters and brightly decorated flags and flowers.

Many meaningful images also appeared around the Hanoi Flag Tower area. 70 years ago, on the afternoon of October 10, 1954, the first flag-raising ceremony took place at the Flag Tower yard right after the capital was liberated.

The joyful atmosphere is clearly seen through decorative signs and propaganda posters with symbols that are both familiar and deeply historical, such as images of Uncle Ho, Long Bien Bridge, soldiers, and the symbol of the bird of peace.

On July 16, 1999, Hanoi became the first Asian city to be awarded the title “City for Peace” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The title “City for Peace” has been associated with Hanoi for the past 25 years.

People enjoy walking through the Hoan Kiem Lake area. At this time, Hanoi's weather is cool, with light sunshine, favorable for entertainment in response to the city's major holidays.

At the Hang Khay - Dinh Tien Hoang intersection, passersby could easily see the image of the convoy carrying soldiers entering the capital on the morning of October 10, 1954.

A large screen in an easily visible corner of a shopping mall displays many photos of historical significance, talking about patriotism, national pride, and love for Hanoi of the Vietnamese people.

A sign on Dai Co Viet Street recreates the image of the radiant faces of soldiers when they returned to take over the capital in 1954.

President Ho Chi Minh's teachings are displayed on large posters at many intersections.

Anywhere on the streets of Hanoi these days, people can see many historical images of Hanoi exactly 70 years ago.

The sign emphasizes the meaning of peace and happiness for the Capital on Nghi Tam Street.

The activity of decorating the city with signs and posters has great contemporary significance. This is both an occasion to celebrate and an annual reminder for all generations of people about the time when the Capital and the country stepped into the future of development, opening a new chapter for the working people to be masters of their own destiny, enthusiastically starting to build society.
