Receiving $100 (about 2.5 million VND) from an audience in the US sent through artist Phi Phung, artist Hong Sap burst into tears. She shared that she still has to go to work and is waiting for her salary to pay the rent, so this support is very valuable.
Artist Hong Sap is famous for her roles as a lonely and flirtatious actress in the Huynh Long opera troupe. She is also a familiar face to television audiences. However, at her old age, artist Hong Sap still has to struggle to earn money, worry about each meal, and live precariously because of her low income. At the end of each month, she is afraid of not having enough money, so she runs around everywhere to pay her rent.
Artist Hong Sap cried when the audience supported her with 2.5 million VND to pay rent.
Artist Hong Sap sent his thanks to those who supported him: "I am very happy, thank you to his family for having compassion for the lonely artist. There is nothing more precious than being able to help at this time, whoever helps makes me very happy...". For artist Hong Sap, being loved and remembered by the audience is an artist's blessing.
Artist Hong Sap was born in 1937, originally from Hanoi. At the age of 8, she followed her parents to the South to sing. At the age of 14, she joined the Huynh Long Cai Luong troupe. Artist Hong Sap gradually became familiar to audiences through her villainous roles in a number of Cantonese Cai Luong plays: Tam Cam, Tinh Su A Nang, Hai Dong Sua Me....
At the age of 88, with gray hair and a hunched back, artist Hong Sap still has to earn a living from day to day, living a makeshift life.
However, when the troupe disbanded, she stopped singing and went backstage to work. When Cai Luong was no longer popular, she acted in TV dramas to make ends meet.
Currently, artist Hong Sap still regularly goes to Dinh Nhon Hoa (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) to wash costumes and clean. Occasionally, she follows the troupe to dress the artists for a salary of 300,000 VND/show. The amount is enough for her and her grandson to get by.
She believes that every job is difficult and not easy, but for her, if she receives a salary, she must do the work in a way that is worthy.
