Authorities in Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa provinces are working to rescue more than 350 people isolated by a landslide.
This morning, a section of National Highway 27C (Khanh Le Pass) through Son Thai Commune, Khanh Vinh District suffered a landslide, with a mass of rock and soil flooding down, blocking the asphalt road, paralyzing traffic. From Km42 to Km60 on Khanh Le Pass, there were 3 serious landslides, with a total volume of rock and soil spilling onto the road of about 1,000m3.
Authorities then put up signs and ropes to warn people and block vehicles at the foot of the pass. At the same time, they dispatched specialized vehicles to handle landslides and check for new landslides.
According to authorities, the cause of the landslide was prolonged rain, with the amount of soil and rocks "absorbing" water for many days. The landslide left passersby stranded in the middle of the pass, forced to take temporary shelter at shrines and small huts in the area.
Khanh Vinh district authorities walked through the landslide site, bringing food and water to the trapped people. At the same time, they notified Lam Dong province authorities to help clear the road and rescue the trapped people.
On the morning of December 15, Khanh Le Pass in Son Thai Commune, Khanh Vinh District (Khanh Hoa) had 3 serious landslides.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Ninh Thuan are experiencing heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 60-150 mm, and in some places over 300 mm. In Khanh Hoa province, in the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many areas such as Cam Lam, Dien Khanh, Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh, Van Ninh districts, Cam Ranh City and Nha Trang City.
