Implementing Resolution No. 06 of the Provincial Party Committee (term XIV) on tourism development to 2025, with a vision to 2030, Phan Thiet has been implementing synchronous solutions to develop Phan Thiet sea tourism strongly and sustainably. Thereby, gradually realizing the potential of Phan Thiet sea tourism, making tourism a key economic sector in the local economic structure.
Number of visitors increased by 20%
Mr. Phan Nguyen Hoang Tan - Chairman of Phan Thiet City People's Committee said: Over the past 2 years, with the close attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and the City Party Committee, the state management of tourism activities has been well implemented, ensuring tourism security, always creating favorable conditions for businesses to conduct tourism business activities. In addition, the coordination between sectors and localities in the management of tourism business activities has been enhanced, contributing to ensuring a fairly good tourism environment. Therefore, the awareness of all levels, sectors, organizations, and individuals doing tourism business about the role and position of the tourism industry has been raised, and the awareness of protecting the natural environment and social environment in tourism activities has been increasingly improved. Tourism products are increasingly diverse and rich, many new products and types of tourism have been put into operation, attracting tourists. The quality of tourism human resources has been improved in terms of expertise, professionalism, and foreign languages.
Along with that, the city has implemented tourism promotion and propaganda work in many diverse and rich forms. The situation of environmental sanitation, food hygiene and safety, security and order in key tourist areas and spots is basically guaranteed. Rescue work on beaches and swimming pools in resorts is regularly paid attention to. Thanks to that, the number of visitors and vacationers increases every year, the length of stay of visitors is longer, and the rate of returning tourists is higher. In the 11 months of 2023 alone, the number of visitors to Phan Thiet reached about 5.7 million, an increase of 20% over the same period last year, of which foreign visitors were about 183,000, an increase of 1.5 times over the same period last year. Revenue reached about 13,500 billion VND, an increase of 20% over the same period in 2022.
Focus on infrastructure investment
According to Mr. Tan, infrastructure is a necessary condition to lay the foundation for exploiting a tourist destination. Therefore, in the past 2 years, the city has invested in building about 8.4 km of roads; 1.1 km of sidewalks; 11 km of drainage and underground systems; and 1.15 km of trees. The total capital mobilized from resources, invested in infrastructure, and urban embellishment to build the city in the past time is about 650 billion VND. Some typical projects include: Expanding the road from Ong Dia stone to Hoang Ngoc tourist area; Flower garden in So Muoi bridge area; Paving sidewalks on roads; Repairing, renovating, and upgrading the drainage system; Thuong Chanh Park; Van Thanh Lake; Overcoming and repairing traffic infrastructure in the period 2021-2025. Up to now, the above projects have brought about positive results, helping urban infrastructure to be gradually invested in and built towards a type I urban area. In addition, environmental sanitation, urban trees, and cultural institutions have been invested in, making the city's appearance increasingly prosperous and spacious.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City shared that in the coming time, Phan Thiet City will continue to effectively implement Resolution 06 of the Provincial Party Committee (term XIV) on tourism development to 2025, with a vision to 2030. In particular, focusing on organizing inspections, rectification, and strict handling of cases of stalking, fraud, and arbitrary price increases at tourism service establishments in the area. At the same time, coordinating with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Binh Thuan Tourism Association and related units to continue to develop tour linkages of clusters and tourist destinations according to the City Tour Project to facilitate tourists coming to Phan Thiet for sightseeing and tourism.
Along with that, continue to strengthen and disseminate the Code of Conduct for Civilized Tourism to tourists, people and organizations and individuals participating in tourism service business activities in the city. Coordinate to review and urge tourism projects to ensure completion on schedule, strictly handle projects that are behind schedule or not implemented. In addition, the city will continue to promote digital transformation and application of science and technology in the tourism industry. At the same time, coordinate with provincial departments and branches to organize tourism training courses for tourism organizations and business units. Organize training for households doing community tourism business. Improve professional qualifications for tourism management staff. According to the report of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City: In 2022, the number of visitors to Phan Thiet for sightseeing and relaxation reached 5.194 million, of which the number of foreign visitors was about 81,800, an increase of 3.2 times over the same period in 2021. Revenue in 2022 was about 12,235 billion VND, an increase of 3.3 times over the same period in 2021. In the first 11 months of 2023 alone, the number of visitors to Phan Thiet for sightseeing and relaxation reached about 5.729 million, an increase of 20% over the same period last year, of which foreign visitors were about 183,000, an increase of 1.5 times over the same period last year.
