Weak tour purchasing power on April 30th has many travel companies hoping that the proposal for 5 consecutive days off will be approved, stimulating people to travel and take long trips.
On April 4, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs drafted a report to the Prime Minister and sent a dispatch asking for opinions from 15 ministries and agencies on switching the working day of April 29 to another time. If the proposal is approved, people will have a 5-day holiday, including two weekend days, one swap day and two official days off.
Mr. Pham Anh Vu, Marketing Director of Viet Tourism Media Joint Stock Company, said that he is waiting for the proposal of a 5-day holiday to be approved, creating more excitement for tourists. Previously, the holiday only lasted for 2 days, many tourists could not arrange their schedules and had to give up their plans to go far away.
Because April has two holidays, Hung King's death anniversary and April 30, Mr. Vu commented that customers have a wait-and-see mentality to see which holiday is more convenient for travel. From the tourism industry's perspective, travel agencies also need to have an accurate plan to prepare suitable scenarios such as increasing tours, increasing services, meeting the market demand, and seizing opportunities to increase revenue.
Representatives of other agencies such as Hoang Viet Travel, Trang An Travel or Top One Travel shared the same opinion, saying that the proposal would affect customers' holiday plans. Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, General Director of Trang An Travel, hoped that the proposal would be approved soon, because the holiday is only three weeks away, and many customers will not be able to prepare in time. According to a survey by reporters, travel companies are all deploying domestic and international holiday tour funds, expected to "close the books" no later than 5 days in advance.

According to Mr. Cuong, traveling on April 30 this year will be difficult because Tet is late, customers have gone on flower-viewing tours in and out of the country after Tet, so they will consider more carefully this time. Many other factors are also affecting the prices of domestic and international long-distance tours such as airfares, high exchange rates of USD and Euro. Tours from Hanoi to Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and tours connecting Eastern and Western Europe are the products with the highest price increase, about 15-30%.
Ms. Luu Thi Thu - Deputy Director of Hoang Viet Travel - shared that there are still many routes to Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China. The main reason is still the high airfare, causing tour itineraries to increase by about 20%.
"The five-day break proposal will give a boost to tourism products with few visitors," she said, adding that international tours often last four days or more, which are difficult to access if the original two-day break is maintained.
This year, Ms. Thu sees that customers mainly choose cheap Southeast Asian products such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, in addition to domestic products including Da Nang, road tours to Sa Pa, Ha Long. Meanwhile, China tours during the holidays, both by road and by air, are selling well. Trang An Travel also recorded a similar trend, with a large number of customers choosing Beijing - Shanghai, Jiuzhaigou tours, road tours to Kunming - Lijiang, Pingbian - Mongzi, and Jingxi.
Ms. Hoang Tuyet, representative of Van Nam Group Tour, said that domestic tourism service prices are increasing, a round-trip air ticket can range from 5-8 million VND. However, the main experiences in a tour are beautiful scenery, food, hotel and tour guide. If having to spend a large amount of money on transportation, many people will think it is unnecessary and find other options. In particular, domestic tourism can be done at any time, not necessarily during holidays.
Therefore, on the occasion of April 30, the company has switched to exploiting 100% of the road route to China via Lao Cai International Border Gate with prices ranging from 4-10 million VND per person, depending on the tour. These programs have elements of foreign tourism and are cheap, so they are prioritized by customers. Currently, the unit has about 400 customers departing from April 26, which can increase to 600 customers if the holiday is longer.
