The Songkran Festival 2024 event was held in Hanoi on April 7 with many activities such as: Buddha bathing ceremony; cooking program, Thai street food experience; Thai boxing and some small games...

The Songkran 2024 Hanoi event brings together the rich cultural heritage of Thailand. Each activity reflects the vibrancy, creativity and energy of the Thai people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura said that the "Happy Songkran 2024" festival is not only a special event for tourists, but also an opportunity to promote the strong relationship between Thailand and Vietnam.

“Your presence here shows the strength and solidarity of the ASEAN community and is a testament to our shared commitment to promoting cooperation, understanding and friendship in the region,” said Mr. Nikorndej Balankura.

After the Ambassador’s opening speech, hundreds of visitors participated in the Thai culinary experience with booths like a miniature fair. At the same time, Thai chefs directly prepared traditional dishes on stage.

Despite the drizzling weather, as the afternoon wore on, more and more people flocked to the grounds of the Thai Embassy (Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi). They wore colorful costumes, carried water guns, and joined in the traditional Thai water festival.

At around 2pm, all the tourists burst into tears as they participated in the water-splashing ceremony. According to belief, the more water a person gets splashed with, the luckier they will be.

Attending the Songkran festival in Hanoi, Tran Phuong Linh (20 years old, Ba Dinh district) said: "I participated in the water festival in Thailand in 2023, the atmosphere in Hanoi was also very happy and bustling. Happy New Year Songkran".

In 2024, Songkran will officially last from April 12-16 in 20 provinces and cities in Thailand. However, localities often hold the festival early and end later, so the time will last from April 4-20.

The earliest event is in Chiang Mai (April 4), other localities mainly organize from April 12-15.

Songkran marks the Thai New Year, a time to celebrate family values, pay respect to elders and hold traditional ceremonies at temples across the country. During this time, people often splash water on each other for good luck.

The festival takes place in many places across the country, but the atmosphere is especially vibrant in the capital Bangkok, which held the Guinness World Record for the "World's Largest Water Gun Fight" (nearly 3,500 people shooting water guns at each other for 10 minutes) in 2011.

Agoda 's survey shows that Vietnamese tourists are in the top 9 foreign markets most interested in Bangkok during Songkran, while the top 5 include South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan (China).

The number of searches for accommodation by Vietnamese visitors in Bangkok during Songkran was also 17% higher than the same period in 2023.
