Tourists flock to Cat Ba cable car after ticket prices 'hit rock bottom'

Statistics on June 2 show that the number of visitors traveling by cable car to Cat Ba , Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city continued to set a new record with more than 5,300 visitors.

Previously, Cat Ba Sun Company Limited (the operator of the Cat Ba cable car line) decided to reduce the ticket price of the Cat Ba sea-crossing cable car line by 50% (the ticket price is now only 50,000 VND/person/trip and free for children under 1m tall) to promote tourists to have more travel options with new and convenient experiences.

For visitors carrying large luggage (60cm x 30cm x 80cm or equivalent to 30kg), there will be an additional transportation fee equivalent to the cable car fare of VND 50,000/way.

According to Tuoi Tre Online, after the price of Cat Ba cable car tickets dropped sharply, many tourists decided to "turn around" and choose to take the cable car instead of waiting for hours to take the ferry like before, thereby significantly reducing the pressure on the ferry trips.

In particular, many travel agencies offer Cat Ba tours with combos that include cable car tickets.

Previously, during the peak summer season, traveling to Cat Ba Island made many tourists frustrated when they had to wait for the ferry for hours in the hot weather.

According to statistics from Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, from May 27 to June 2, the number of cable car passengers reached 20,402 (an increase of 326% over the same period in 2023).

Mr. Pham Minh Toan (35 years old, a tourist from Thai Binh) said that because he had to wait for the ferry for too long, he decided to park his car so that he and his family could experience the cable car and found it quite convenient to be able to buy tickets online, directly at the counter or automatically at the station quickly.

"With the price of 50,000 VND/person/trip, I find it more reasonable than taking the ferry, which not only requires a long wait but also costs 12,000 VND/person/trip for pedestrians, not including vehicle fees.

Taking the cable car, you can also see Hai Phong from above, the cabin is spacious and can hold up to 30 people, each trip only takes 10-15 minutes so you don't have to worry about getting lost from the group," Toan shared.

A representative of Cat Ba Sun Company Limited (the operator of the Cat Ba cable car route) said the new price will apply until August 31, coinciding with the peak tourist season in the North.

Currently, at the cable car waiting area on Cat Hai Island, the unit has arranged a parking lot of dozens of hectares with a parking fee of only 5,000 - 10,000 VND/motorbike and 20,000 - 70,000 VND/car, depending on the parking time.

Upon arriving at Phu Long station on Cat Ba island, visitors can use taxi, shuttle or bus services with prices ranging from 13,000 - 50,000 VND/person, depending on the type, to continue to Cat Ba town center./.

The Cat Hai - Phu Long three-wire cable car route has a total investment of more than 2,200 billion VND, a length of nearly 4km with a capacity of 4,500 passengers/hour. The cable car route operates throughout the week, starting from about 9:00 - 15:45 (frequency about 15 minutes/trip).

Started operating from June 2020, Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car helps people and tourists shorten travel time to and from Cat Ba area from about 25 minutes by ferry to 10 minutes.
