Forecast of heavy rain in the Central region and cold air in the North in February

In January 2024, three cold air waves entered our country on January 3, January 10 and January 22. Of which, the cold air on January 22 caused widespread severe cold in the North and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh.

Specifically, the North from January 22-29 will have widespread cold, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An from January 23-28 with average daily temperatures in most areas ranging from 10-13 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas some places will be below 0 degrees Celsius such as Mau Son on January 24 with temperatures down to -3 degrees Celsius. Frost covers many high mountainous areas in the North.

Temperatures in the last 10 days of January 2024 in the North and Thanh Hoa are generally 2.5-3.5 degrees Celsius lower than the average of many years, and lower in some places. From Nghe An to Quang Binh, temperatures are generally 1.5-2.5 degrees Celsius lower, from Quang Tri to Thua Thien Hue, temperatures are 0.5-1 degrees Celsius lower.

The Meteorological Center said that in February 2024, cold air will continue to affect our country's weather, but it may be weaker than the average of many years. During the 10-day period in mid-February, cold air is likely to be approximately as active as the average of many years during the same period.

Nationwide, the average temperature is generally 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years.

In addition, the Central and South Central regions are likely to experience periods of rain, showers and locally heavy rain in February 2024.

Also this month, total rainfall in the North and North Central regions is forecast to be 5-15mm lower than the average of many years, in which the midland and mountainous provinces of the North will have 10-20mm more rainfall. The Central and South Central regions will have a 15-30mm shortage. The Central Highlands and the South will generally have little rain, and drought will continue.

Fog, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail continue to appear nationwide, affecting production and people's activities.
