Coffee price forecast June 28, 2024: Will the decline continue? Coffee price forecast June 30, 2024: Will there be a sudden increase after a series of slight declines? |
Coffee prices on July 1, 2024 in the domestic market are forecast to continue to decrease slightly. The Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa) said that the combination of drought, heat and the outbreak of mealybugs and red spiders will reduce the next Robusta crop in Vietnam by 15%-20%.
According to Vicofa's estimates, Robusta coffee production for the 2023/24 crop will be at 26.7 million bags, while Vietnam's next crop in 2024/25 will be between 21.4 and 22.7 million bags. This figure is even significantly lower than Volcafé's previous preliminary forecast of 24 million bags and much lower than the USDA's estimate of 27.85 million bags given last week.
The ICO and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have proposed the creation of a new global fund to support the coffee sector, especially farmers. The fund would focus on direct lending to coffee cooperatives and coffee-producing households. The goal is to increase coffee production in the face of falling supplies and rising global demand.
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) recently predicted that coffee prices will increase again, mainly due to investors' increasing concerns about the supply prospects from Vietnam. Currently, hedge funds have increased their net buying positions with the forecast that the supply of Robusta from Vietnam will continue to be scarce in the coming time.
