(Dan Tri) - Gasoline prices at the adjustment period on December 19 are forecast to increase by about 400-600 VND/liter.
According to plan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance will adjust retail gasoline prices periodically tomorrow (December 19).
The leader of a major petroleum distribution company in the South said that after the previous adjustment period, crude oil prices increased sharply due to concerns about the risk of supply disruption from Russia, but recently there has been a downward trend.
On December 16, the price of imported gasoline in the Singapore market was at 86.48 USD/barrel for RON 95 gasoline, an increase of more than 2 USD/barrel compared to 7 days ago; RON 92 gasoline was at 83.13 USD/barrel, an increase of nearly 3 USD/barrel. Therefore, it is likely that domestic gasoline prices will increase in tomorrow's adjustment period.
Specifically, gasoline prices are expected to increase by about 400-500 VND/liter. Similarly, diesel may increase by about 500-600 VND/liter. In case the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance jointly spend the Price Stabilization Fund, gasoline prices may increase less.
In addition, the owner of a petroleum distribution company in the North also predicted that petroleum prices will increase quite strongly in tomorrow's operating period. The petroleum discount on December 17 at many warehouses has reached about 850-950 VND/liter.
If forecasts are correct, domestic RON 95 gasoline prices will increase for two consecutive sessions after only one decrease. Currently, this fuel price is still at its lowest level in more than 3 years, equivalent to June 2021. Since the beginning of the year, gasoline has increased 23 times and decreased 26 times. Diesel has increased 21 times and decreased 27 times.
The room for the petroleum price stabilization fund of some key enterprises still recorded a large positive level because the fund was not used in many operating periods. The fund balance as of the end of the second quarter was VND 6,061 billion, down VND 18 billion compared to the previous quarter and the fifth consecutive quarter of decrease. Compared to the end of 2023, the fund balance decreased by nearly VND 600 billion.
In the most recent adjustment on December 12, the management agency decided to keep the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline unchanged at VND19,860/liter and increase RON 95 gasoline by VND30/liter to VND20,590/liter. Meanwhile, diesel decreased by VND130/liter to VND18,250/liter; kerosene decreased by VND250/liter to VND18,560/liter; and fuel oil decreased by VND550/kg to VND15,570/kg.
In the world market, at the end of the session on December 17, crude oil prices fell about 1% to a one-week low due to concerns about demand after negative economic news from Germany and China, while investors remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates, according to Reuters .
According to Trading Economics data, at 7:30 a.m. on December 18, WTI oil price was trading at 70.19 USD/barrel, down 1.55% compared to last week; similarly, Brent oil was also at 73.28 USD/barrel, down 1.62%.
