Piloting ecological industrial parks according to global criteria

According to the Provincial Planning by 2030, Dong Nai will have 48 industrial parks with over 18 thousand hectares. The province will prioritize the development of a number of key industries, new technology, high technology; at the same time, convert and establish new high-tech industrial parks, green and ecological industrial parks.

Industrial clusters will attract craft villages and small businesses to operate and will also be invested in a green direction so that products are eligible for export.

Currently, Dong Nai has established 33 industrial parks, of which 31 are in operation. For many years, the province has encouraged businesses to invest in technology and digital transformation to form green, smart factories. Many industrial parks in Dong Nai are highly appreciated for their quality in attracting investment, developing industry and protecting the environment such as: Amata, Loteco, Bien Hoa 2, Nhon Trach 2, Nhon Trach 3... This is also the foundation for forming green, ecological industrial parks.

Developing new generation industrial zones according to ecological and green models has become an inevitable trend on a global scale. The purpose is to adapt to climate change and develop sustainably towards a green future.

Dong Nai was selected by the Ministry of Planning and Investment as one of six localities to pilot an ecological industrial park according to global criteria, with the Amata Industrial Park (Bien Hoa City). It is expected that upon completion, this model will be replicated in industrial parks in Dong Nai, as well as many provinces and cities across the country.

The international framework for eco-industrial parks covers four aspects: industrial park management, environment, economy and society. During the implementation process, about 18 enterprises in the industrial park participated in the cleaner production assessment.

There are 8 solutions proposed for application, estimated to save about 1.4 trillion VND/year; reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 552.9 tons of CO2/year; reduce wastewater generation by 4.8 thousand m3/year.

The above results show that Amata Industrial Park is now approaching many criteria according to the international framework for global eco-industrial parks. In the next phase, industrial symbiosis solutions, waste reuse and renewable energy use will be promoted to fully meet the criteria of an eco-industrial park.

Aiming to be at the forefront of green industry development, achieving net zero goals

The province's goal by 2030 is to become the third largest economic region in the country. In the economic structure, industry and construction account for more than 58%. Because industry is still the mainstay of economic development, the province will focus on attracting projects with modern technology and high added value to industrial parks in the area.

In recent times, Dong Nai has implemented solutions to promote the attraction of high-tech, environmentally friendly projects. The areas chosen by the province for planning the development of industrial parks have favorable infrastructure locations, good geology, and low construction costs. The province focuses on accelerating the progress of infrastructure investment in industrial parks and specialized industrial parks supporting industry, creating favorable conditions for investors.

With a breakthrough mindset, promoting potentials and advantages, Dong Nai has determined that by 2050, the province will be one of the important growth poles of Vietnam, leading in the development of green and ecological industry, completing the net zero target.

To achieve net zero, policies and cooperation from many parties are needed. Enterprises cannot proceed separately but must unite into an entity, form a chain, aim for circular production, form a supply chain from input to output. Net zero needs to move towards liberating labor, standardizing machinery and equipment to reduce carbon emissions, improve production efficiency, labor efficiency and the environment. Dong Nai needs to increase the transfer of technical advances, encourage and support enterprises to invest in modern technology, and apply circular economic models. At the same time, encourage the use of renewable energy, eliminate projects that affect the ecological environment...
