Actively recover from natural disasters
During storm No. 3, Phuc Tho district did not record any human casualties or major property damage. However, agricultural production was greatly affected.
Statistics from the District Economic Department show that storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm caused more than 1,000 hectares of rice to be submerged, broken, and fallen, of which 145 hectares were deeply submerged. Nearly 300 hectares of vegetables were damaged. The area of fruit trees affected in productivity was about 450 hectares.
The district also recorded about 14 hectares of greenhouses and net houses damaged and their roofs blown off. More than 41 hectares of aquaculture area were flooded and nearly 600 livestock and poultry were killed or swept away...
Head of the Economic Department of Phuc Tho district Can Van Hong said that immediately after storm No. 3 passed and the flood reduced, the district directed the communes to mobilize forces to focus on clearing the flow so that rice and crops could continue to grow.
“For broken and collapsed areas, the district recommends that people harvest early; prepare the land for winter crops as soon as the rice harvest is completed…” - Mr. Can Van Hong added.
On September 15, Song Tich Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited was maintaining the operation of 5 pumping stations with 20 pumping units, with a total capacity of hundreds of cubic meters per hour, focusing on draining flooded rice and crop areas.
Early planting of winter crops
Faced with the impact of natural disasters on agricultural productivity, the People's Committee of Phuc Tho district has reviewed and supplemented the plan to increase the production area for the 2024 winter crop, focusing on the group of crops.
Accordingly, the district strives to increase the area of short-term vegetables by about 200 hectares. At the same time, organize the early winter crop, as soon as the flood waters recede for areas of crops that can no longer be harvested.
Chairman of Phuc Tho District People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Son said that, in the face of great losses in agricultural production caused by storm No. 3 and floods after the storm, the district determined that the winter crop is the main crop, which is important in ensuring income, stabilizing people's lives and maintaining growth for the district in 2024.
With the above important meaning, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Son requested that specialized departments, communes and towns focus on producing winter crops in 2024. The urgent task at hand is to organize a campaign to dredge irrigation canals to restore production.
“Governments at all levels and people need to identify that effective winter crop production is not the responsibility of any one person. If the upcoming winter crop is not produced well, the leaders of communes and towns must take the first responsibility…” - Mr. Nguyen Dinh Son emphasized.
Regarding the activities of cooperatives, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Tho district Nguyen Dinh Son said that cooperatives need to further enhance their roles and responsibilities, and make efforts to operate more effectively; at the same time, he requested the Economic Department to continue reviewing and evaluating, and resolutely dissolving any units that are not operating effectively.
In the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Son suggested that the Economic Department continue to coordinate with communes and towns to review agricultural land areas to organize agricultural production models suitable to potential and advantages; strive to not leave any land area abandoned.
“For the 2024 Winter crop to be successful, the district directs each socio-political organization to undertake 1 production model; each commune and town registers 1 winter crop growing model. In addition to implementing production support according to the resolution of the Hanoi People's Council, the district also assigned the Finance Department to flexibly apply mechanisms and policies to provide additional support for agricultural production models in the 2024 Winter crop…” - Secretary of the Phuc Tho District Party Committee Nguyen Doan Hoan .
