Facing Iraq at Basra International Stadium on the evening of June 11, the Vietnamese team did not start well and let their opponents pressure them. Hussein Ali Haidar opened the scoring with a beautiful long-range shot in the 12th minute and in the 19th minute, coach Kim Sang Sik's team escaped defeat when Mohanad Ali missed a penalty kick.

Iraq could not score another goal in the first half and they continued to press the field in the second half. After a series of unsuccessful shots, the home team finally scored a goal to increase the score to 2-0 after a long-range shot by Ali Jasim.
