As planned, on the afternoon of October 9, the Vietnamese women's team entered their first training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, preparing for the upcoming friendly tournament in China.
At this tournament, the Vietnamese women's team will meet the Chinese women's team and the Uzbekistan women's team, not the Japanese and Korean women's teams as previously reported.
Sharing about the team's plan, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "There are many young faces in the team, gathered to prepare for important tournaments in 2025. We will arrange for young players to have the opportunity to learn, improve, and perform well to join the seniors on the field."
“The race to qualify for the World Cup is very difficult, and the upcoming tournaments will not be easy either. Direct competitors of Vietnamese women's football are investing heavily, even in Southeast Asia. The Philippines and Singapore have naturalized players, and Thailand is the host of the SEA Games. In Asia, in addition to Japan, South Korea, China, and Australia, there are now the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Uzbekistan, and Iran competing with Vietnam. The Vietnamese women's team needs a generation of young players to work alongside their seniors to improve their performance,” added Mr. Mai Duc Chung.
In the upcoming friendly tournament, the Vietnamese women's team will play friendly matches with host China (October 23) and the Uzbekistan women's team (October 29). "Uzbekistan women's football has improved, with a large physique, good strength and fitness. The upcoming matches will help the Vietnamese women's team gain experience. The players will understand what they lack to supplement for next year, with 3 important playgrounds including the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers, the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship and the 33rd SEA Games," said the head coach of the Vietnamese women's team.
The Vietnamese women's team this time has 23 players, but in the first days, 6 players who are playing with Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in the Asian Women's Club Championship were absent. Evaluating recent tournaments at the club level, coach Mai Duc Chung commented: "This is a good playground for Vietnamese women's football. Through this, new players will mature and meet strong opponents. Or there are tournaments like the recent Hanoi International Friendly at Hang Day Stadium, the opponents may not be too strong, but will help the players gain experience and make good additions to the team."
The Vietnamese women's team will have nearly 2 weeks of training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center before moving to China on October 21.
