After more than 40 years of construction and development, with many upgrades and name changes, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade is a public university training unit under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The school is enrolling and organizing training in 33 undergraduate majors, 10 master's majors and 6 doctoral majors. Of which, 29 training programs meet domestic and international education quality accreditation standards. As of June 2023, the school has trained nearly 60,000 engineers, bachelors and masters to serve the human resource needs of localities with the employment rate of graduates reaching over 90%.

In recent years, the school has achieved many important achievements on the path to becoming an innovative university, in which the student start-up movement stands out. The school also established the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HCIE), creating conditions for innovation activities of the school and students.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said: Changing the name of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry to Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will help the school better position its brand, while creating new development momentum for the school's training programs. The school will develop multi-disciplinary and multi-level programs, focusing on majors in the fields of industry and commerce, helping to increase the school's brand value towards sustainable development. At the same time, it will achieve the strategic goal of becoming a leading applied and innovative university in the domestic education system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, praised the outstanding achievements in education and training of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, now Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. At the same time, he requested that in the coming time, the school should develop a strategic development plan for each stage to match the new name of the school.
