Attending the conference were more than 200 delegates representing the Departments, branches, members of the Gia Lai Provincial Human Rights Steering Committee and delegates from the provincial police force.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Son, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police Department, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Human Rights Steering Committee, said that although the world and regional situation in the past year continued to develop complicatedly, affected by fierce and direct competition between major countries, deeply affecting the political and security situation as well as the guarantee of human rights, Gia Lai province has achieved many achievements in ensuring and promoting human rights.
Religious and ethnic security continues to be maintained stably, product growth rate in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 3.76% (ranked 4th/5 provinces in the Central Highlands region).
The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.4% compared to the first 9 months of 2023. Gia Lai province has increasingly effectively implemented the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. Up to now, the whole province has 128 villages and hamlets in ethnic minority areas meeting the new rural standards according to the national target program.
In addition, the province always implements well social security and welfare policies, especially preferential policies for people with meritorious services, taking care of the lives of the elderly, people with disabilities, children, especially children in difficult circumstances; focusing on promoting poverty reduction in ethnic minority areas.
However, the province's economic development is not yet stable and sustainable, the scale of GRDP and the human development index (HDI) are still low, and the infrastructure of health, education and culture has not been invested in proportion. Meanwhile, hostile forces always take advantage of ethnic, religious, democratic and human rights issues in the province to propagate, distort, slander and distort the situation of ensuring and promoting human rights in our country in international forums. In this situation, it poses significant challenges for Gia Lai province in the work of ensuring and promoting human rights.

At the conference, Colonel Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Head of the Human Rights Section, Government Standing Office on Human Rights, affirmed that human rights is a common task of the entire political system, closely linked to the grassroots level, so it requires the joint efforts and coordination of departments, branches and sectors in protecting and ensuring human rights.
In the coming time, during the mid-term of the 2023-2025 term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Vietnam will continue to participate more deeply in promoting dialogue and cooperation on human rights, promoting commitments to re-run for membership of the UNHRC for the 2026-2028 term. Hostile forces will increase propaganda distorting Vietnam's repression of human rights, especially in issues of ethnicity, religion, and worker security, especially at international forums, in order to discredit Vietnam's reputation and image, and sabotage efforts to affirm our position in the international arena.
Therefore, human rights work must closely combine "building" and "fighting", maintaining internal stability, developing the socio-economy, ensuring human rights in all political, economic, social and cultural fields to create a solid foundation for the fight against the slanderous and distorted arguments of hostile forces.
