After hundreds of years of bombs and bullets of war, the banyan tree in Huong residential group, Tho Xuong ward, Bac Giang city (Bac Giang) still gives off cool green shade and bears fruit every season.
According to ancient documents kept in the residential group, the fig tree was planted about 300 years ago, in the spiritual cultural complex of Huong Pagoda and the temple of General Leu Van Minh, which has been ranked as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
The tree is 20 m high, trunk diameter 1.3 m, canopy coverage about 200 m2.
The fig tree is where villagers sit to rest after returning from work in the fields and organize recreational activities during each festival. Because it is planted in the central area, at the highest position in the village, during the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism, the fig tree was where the village chief, hamlet chief or village information officer used a loudspeaker to announce village activities or warn when the enemy arrived.
When ripe, the star fruit has a strong aroma. The aroma of star fruit has the effect of calming, relaxing, and reducing nervous tension.
In particular, dried star apple peels are burned into fine powder and mixed with base oils (sesame oil, coconut oil, almond oil, etc.) to be applied topically to treat blisters caused by shingles.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phi in Huong residential group said that he is 81 years old this year, but since he was a child, he heard his father tell him that the ancient banyan tree had lived in the village for hundreds of years.
Despite having gone through two fierce historical resistance wars against the French and the Americans under the enemy's bombs and bullets, the historical relics of the communal house and pagoda in Huong residential area are still safe. Previously, loudspeakers were hung on the banyan tree to serve information and propaganda work. The banyan tree is a historical witness, a symbol of strong vitality, resilience and pride in the heroic homeland of Bac Giang.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Head of Huong residential group said, with that meaning, on August 25, 2021, the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association decided to recognize the fig tree as an "Ancient tree with historical and cultural value".
“Due to the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, the traditional festival of Huong Pagoda taking place in January of the year of Quy Mao 2023, the officials and people of the residential group organized to announce the decision,” Mr. Toan shared.
Currently, Huong residential group has built regulations for tree management and protection associated with building a cultural residential group. At the same time, it has widely disseminated to the people the significance of preserving old trees, mobilized people to contribute to tree care, promoted the movement of planting trees and ornamental plants, contributing to protecting and improving the living environment.
(BGDT) - Mrs. Ngoan was sweeping the fallen cotton flowers outside the gate when she suddenly heard her daughter-in-law calling her. She was startled. She didn't know what was going on. Since the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, whenever she heard her daughter-in-law calling her, she was startled, her heart pounding, no matter what she was doing, she would stop and run into the house.
