Unique asset management strategies of female billionaires around the world

Financially, female billionaires tend to have more assets in private companies (35% compared to 28% of men), as well as more liquidity and cash assets (39% compared to 30% of men).

According to a recent report by the data firm Altrata, of the world’s 3,323 billionaires, 431, or 13%, are women. While this is still a relatively low percentage, the number has been increasing over the past 10 years.

This trend is expected to continue, the report said, due to factors such as the number of women in business, slow changes in cultural attitudes and the increasing reality of intergenerational wealth transfers.

Inheritance is one of the important reasons for the increase in the number of female billionaires. About 75% of female billionaires inherited some of their wealth, 38% inherited all of their wealth, including the three richest women in the world: Alice Walton ($104 billion), Julia Flesher Koch ($76 billion) and Françoise Bettencourt Meyers ($73 billion). In contrast, only 5% of male billionaires inherited large fortunes.

In addition, male and female billionaires also have different spending patterns. For example, nearly 20% of female billionaires reportedly spend the majority of their working time on nonprofits, compared to 5% of men.

Explaining this, the report said women owning more inherited assets makes them focus on philanthropy, as they tend to have "less commercial commitments."

On the other hand, men tend to have a larger proportion of their wealth in stocks, especially in publicly traded technology companies. Female billionaires are also 1.5 times more likely to invest in luxury real estate and art, or own real estate worth more than $10 million.

Gender differences in interests are also quite clear. For female billionaires, charity work is the most frequently mentioned hobby, at 71%. For men, sports is the top hobby, also at 71%.

Many women consider arts, education, and travel as hobbies, while men are more interested in aviation, outdoor activities, and politics.
