Vietnamese businessmen in Australia propose that the Government have open policies on visas, exchange rates, taxes, domestic and international information connections, etc. to attract foreign investment.

On the morning of March 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh worked with leaders and representatives of the Vietnam Entrepreneurs Association in Australia, during his official visit to this country.

Mr. Tran Ba Phuc, Chairman of the Association, said that the Vietnamese community is very happy that Vietnam and Australia have upgraded their relationship to the highest level - Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is a favorable condition for Vietnamese enterprises to do business in Australia, promoting bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

"Australia welcomed the Prime Minister in a very special way. The fact that the Governor-General of Australia personally drove the Prime Minister to visit the Governor-General's Palace is very rare, not every country's leader is given such a ceremony," said Mr. Phuc, adding that the Prime Minister's trip "made the Vietnamese community proud."

The Vietnamese Business Association in Australia was established in early 2010 and currently has about 500 members, including about 100 domestic members. The association has supported Vietnamese businesses exporting to Australia; promoting trade, displaying, introducing, and bringing Vietnamese goods to Australian supermarkets.

"We will continue to play a good role as a bridge to promote trade, investment and business between the two countries. I believe that the bilateral economic relationship will go further and deeper," said the President of the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association in Australia.

Businessman Nguyen Thanh Hoang said he was one of the first overseas Vietnamese to invest in the country, including the Six Senses Con Dao project, which was honored by prestigious magazines as the leading resort in Southeast Asia. "I hope to continue expanding investment in the very potential tourism sector in Vietnam," he said.

Mr. Henry Tran, Vice President of the Vietnamese Business Association in Sydney, said that many countries, including Australia, are very interested in suppliers and manufacturers from Vietnam to diversify their supply sources. He recently took an Australian partner to visit Bat Trang ceramic village and highly appreciated the quality as well as the cultural and historical elements in the products. They brought samples back to Australia to introduce and are promoting cooperation.

Delegates affirmed that the potential and opportunities for cooperation and development of businesses of the two countries are huge after upgrading relations. Therefore, the Government needs to have open policies related to visas, exchange rates, taxes, domestic and international information connections... to attract foreign investment, promote intellectual resources from those studying in Australia, attract tourists from Australia to visit Vietnam, bring Vietnamese people to Australia to work and boost the export of agricultural products and goods.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the achievements of the Vietnam Entrepreneurs Association in Australia, which have contributed to the economic development of the two countries. The leaders of the two countries approved the Vietnam - Australia Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES), which is a foundation for Australian businesses as well as Vietnamese businesses here to promote cooperation with domestic businesses.

The Prime Minister suggested that the Association and the Vietnamese business and entrepreneur community in Australia promote their achievements and make the most of opportunities from the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to develop economic links and cooperation. The Association should focus on promoting cooperation in the fields of green economy, digital economy, exploitation and deep processing of essential minerals, labor cooperation, education and training, etc.

The Government leader also requested the Association and businesses and entrepreneurs to increase support for the community, especially the disadvantaged and those who have just arrived in Australia, and actively urge Australia to consider and recognize the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority as proposed by the Prime Minister.

"I hope that the Association and the Vietnamese business and entrepreneur community will contribute to building and developing an increasingly strong Vietnamese community with a high position, complying with local laws, contributing to the development of the country and promoting bilateral relations," said the head of the Government.
