Quang Tri Duc Hien Quang Tri Company Limited was fined 50 million VND by Vinh Linh district for discharging wastewater into Sa Lung river, upstream of Ben Hai river.
The People's Committee of Vinh Linh district decided to impose a fine on October 5, after the test results of the natural rubber processing wastewater sample released into the environment by the company exceeded the permitted standard by 5.08 times.

Since the beginning of 2023, shrimp and fish raised by people in ponds using water from the Sa Lung River have died. Pond owners went upstream to the Sa Lung River and discovered that the water flowing from an irrigation dam into the river was black and smelly, due to the factory discharging waste into the river.
The People's Committee of Vinh Linh district then conducted a surprise inspection of the environmental protection law compliance of Duc Hien Quang Tri Company Limited, and discovered that the underground sewer connecting the factory area discharged wastewater into the Sa Lung River. Working with the inspection team, the company's representative admitted that there was a leak, allowing untreated wastewater from the factory to flow directly into the environment.
Vinh Linh district also discovered that the paper factory of the North Central Joint Stock Company in Vinh Long commune illegally discharged waste into the Sa Lung river.
Sa Lung River flows into Ben Hai River, has a length of 59 km and a basin area of 410 km2.
