With more than 10,000 workers and 212 subcontractors, strengthening management of labor safety and environmental protection is considered by Formosa Ha Tinh Company as a key task to ensure sustainable production.

Located in Ha Tinh since 2008, up to now, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (FHS) has made great contributions to the socio-economic development of Ha Tinh in particular and the country in general, and is the driving force for the growth of the province.
Due to the large scale of the project, Formosa employs a large workforce and a system of subcontractors to undertake different stages of the production process. Currently, FHS alone employs nearly 6,500 workers, and if workers from 212 subcontractors are included, the number of workers exceeds 10,000.
With a large number of employees, strengthening labor safety management is a key task that the company's leaders pay great attention to. Every year, FHS periodically organizes key propaganda on labor safety for employees and workers of 212 subcontractors. At the same time, contractors must sign a commitment to ensure that no labor safety incidents occur. For construction items with potential risks, FHS organizes training sessions for all contractor employees.
Workers strictly comply with labor protection in areas with potential risks.
According to FHS representative, to limit the occurrence of occupational safety incidents, the most important thing is to promote the role and capacity of occupational safety supervisors.
Currently, FHS has classified the supervisors into level A - excellent type accounting for 20%, level B - average type accounting for 30% and level C - type requiring further monitoring accounting for 50%. For these supervisors, retraining will be conducted annually, from which the cases that do not meet the requirements will be selected and removed from the occupational safety supervisor status. From 2022 to now, FHS has removed the occupational safety supervisor status of 149 cases.
With a large factory scale, the number of equipment and machinery is also very large and complex. Therefore, the work of comprehensively reviewing occupational safety risks, periodically checking and maintaining equipment and machinery is always focused.
Accordingly, the Center for Environment and Labor Safety, the director's office of the departments and the workshops periodically conduct daily on-site inspections of potentially risky construction activities. In case of detecting abnormalities, the company will sanction the responsible staff, safety supervisors and workshop safety staff.
Many items are controlled via computer systems, reducing the risk of work accidents.
All machinery systems with strict occupational safety requirements are automatically managed through the computer system. Within 3 months before the inspection, the computer system will notify the equipment department to conduct the inspection. The entire factory has a total of 4,153 pieces of equipment and machinery with strict occupational safety requirements that have been granted inspection certificates and usage certificates.
Regarding fire prevention and fighting, with the characteristics of heavy industrial production, combined with the harsh weather in Ky Anh town, FHS focuses on comprehensively inspecting fire prevention and fighting in the factory area. FHS representative affirmed that in order to prevent gas leaks leading to fire and explosion, the units at the scene regularly use infrared scanners to check for signs of leaks on gas pipeline equipment. Every year, the company coordinates with the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department to organize dozens of drills on fire prevention, chemical incidents, and oil spills.
Mr. Pham Tran De - Deputy Head of the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board assessed: "In the past time, thanks to the good implementation of management work, especially the FHS labor safety staff who were trained and selected regularly, the organization of management and supervision of labor safety and hygiene was effectively implemented in workshops and workshops. From there, raising awareness for officers and employees, minimizing labor accidents".
Wastewater and emission monitoring system is continuously transmitted and updated to state management agencies.
Along with labor safety, ensuring environmental hygiene during the production process continues to be enhanced. According to the latest assessment results, the parameters of wastewater and emissions into the environment are all in accordance with the permitted standards. The drilling data of the automatic and continuous emission and wastewater monitoring system is transmitted directly to the state management agency for monitoring. FHS also focuses on implementing odor control and removal measures. According to the latest analysis results, the quality of the surrounding air environment meets the permitted standards according to regulations, ensuring that the company's production activities do not affect the surrounding area. FHS also increases the greening of the factory. To date, the company has planted nearly 167 hectares of trees in the factory premises, contributing to creating a green - clean - beautiful environment and landscape, close to nature. |
