Vietnam is a market with growth potential for Polish products and Polish businesses are looking to cooperate to seek development opportunities.
Connecting new transport routes between Poland and Vietnam to promote economic cooperation
Vietnam and Poland are two countries with a long-standing traditional friendship. In particular, the two countries are actively implementing many activities towards the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Poland (February 4, 1950 - February 4, 2025). In recent times, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Poland has been continuously strengthened in all areas, especially trade and investment relations.
Regarding trade relations, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Poland in 2023 will reach over 2.8 billion USD (up 5.9% compared to 2022). Of which, the export value from Vietnam to Poland will reach over 2.4 billion USD (up 7%) and the import value of Vietnam from this market will reach about 374 million USD (down 0.4%). In the first 10 months of 2024, the bilateral trade turnover between the two countries will reach over 2.8 billion USD (up 21.8% over the same period in 2023). Vietnam - Poland Trade Conference held on November 28 in Ho Chi Minh City |
Despite many positive results, according to Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem - Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI-HCM), the trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Poland have not yet developed commensurate with the potential of the bilateral relationship. Therefore, the two countries have agreed to soon elevate the bilateral relationship to a new level. Accordingly, both countries have seas, so the development of seaport infrastructure and maritime transport is important for the economic development of each country, as well as promoting bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
Speaking at the Vietnam-Poland Trade Conference, organized by VCCI-HCM, the Polish Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, and the Gdańsk Port Authority (Poland) on November 28, Mr. Liem said that the direct connection between Poland and Vietnam will help reduce transportation time and costs, streamline the flow of Vietnamese goods into Europe, and facilitate Polish exports to Vietnam's growing consumer market. This development is set to further deepen bilateral trade and strengthen economic ties between Vietnam and Poland.
“Currently, many Vietnamese logistics enterprises have researched and established international freight routes from Vietnam to Poland and vice versa. However, this development is still far from the potential for cooperation between the two sides. Therefore, the recent working trip of the Gdansk Port Authority to Vietnam is a great opportunity for businesses from both sides in the fields of port infrastructure, logistics, forwarding, transportation, import-export trade, etc. to update market information, discuss issues of mutual interest to seek new cooperation opportunities,” said Mr. Liem.
Strengthening economic relations
According to Ms. Dorota Pyć - CEO of the Port of Gdańsk, Poland and Vietnam have had diplomatic relations for more than 70 years. In recent years, the economic partnership between the two countries has increased. Trade between Poland and Vietnam reached new heights last year, with even greater growth potential. “We look forward to strengthening and expanding our cooperation, offering Vietnamese companies new opportunities to access the European market through the Port of Gdańsk. With our respective strategic locations, the Port of Gdańsk can serve as an ideal entry point for Vietnamese goods into Europe and a gateway for Polish and European products into Vietnam,” said Ms. Dorota Pyć.

According to the assessment of businesses of both countries, the launch of new ship connections between the ports of Gdańsk and Vung Tau in February 2025 will mark a new era in the economic cooperation between Poland and Vietnam. The weekly MSC services: BRITANNIA (westbound) and ALBATROS (eastbound) as well as additional weekly services operated by the GEMINI alliance will significantly increase the efficiency and scale of trade between the two countries.
Vietnam will thus benefit significantly from strengthening trade relations with Poland. “Vietnam is becoming a key player in the global economy, rapidly expanding its market and ranking as one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia. The growing interest of Polish consumers and businesses in Vietnamese products underlines the promising prospects for continued economic cooperation,” said Arkadiusz Marchewka, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Poland.
Poland also sees great potential in strengthening trade relations with its Vietnamese partners. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which was enacted in 2020, has eliminated more than 99% of tariffs on trade goods. Polish companies can now take advantage of favorable conditions to export products such as fish, milk, ice cream, chemical goods, and also spirits and processed food products in the coming years. With this, they can prepare for further growth of Polish exports to Vietnam, worth around USD 413 million by 2023.
“The Vietnamese market is not only an opportunity but also a necessity for Polish entrepreneurs with global aspirations. This is a market where Polish products have great growth potential and partners are ready to cooperate,” said Piotr Harasimowicz, Head of the Foreign Trade Office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Ho Chi Minh City.
Port of Gdańsk - gateway to global markets The Port of Gdańsk, Poland's largest seaport, is committed to strengthening economic cooperation with partners in Asia. On November 28, 2024, the “Vietnam-Poland Business Mixer 2024” - an initiative organized by the Port of Gdańsk in collaboration with its partners - took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The organization of the Business Mixer is in line with the Port of Gdańsk's mission as a gateway to the world for Polish exporters. Cooperation with Asian markets, successfully initiated with partners from South Korea and Singapore, is now moving to a new level, focusing on Vietnam - Poland's largest partner in ASEAN. “We aim for Business Mixer to become a strategic platform for Polish companies planning to expand their international activities, especially in Asian markets,” said Alan Aleksandrowicz, Vice President of the Port of Gdańsk, adding that this is where business relationships develop into concrete contracts and long-term cooperation. This initiative is in line with the port’s mission as a gateway for Polish exporters to the global market. Together with new maritime transport connections, the enhanced partnership marks the next step in the growing economic relationship between Vietnam and Poland. |
