Connected online to 78 points of provincial and municipal post offices across the Vietnam Post network, the launching ceremony of the program 'Vietnam Post Youth takes the lead in propagating and mobilizing people to participate in social insurance and health insurance' took place on March 16 as an activity in response to 'Youth Month 2024'.
Emphasizing that social insurance and health insurance (SI, HI) are two pillars of the national social security system, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Social Security Le Hung Son said that over the years, the coverage of these two types of insurance has continuously grown.
By the end of last year, the total number of social insurance participants was over 18.4 million, reaching 39.25% of the working-age workforce; the number of health insurance participants was over 93.6 million, reaching a coverage rate of 93.35% of the population. Along with that, the rights of social insurance and health insurance participants are always guaranteed promptly.
With a system of social insurance and health insurance collection services and a nationwide network of collaborators, in recent years, according to Mr. Le Hung Son, Vietnam Post has truly been one of the 'extended arms' of Vietnam Social Security, effectively implementing communication work and mobilizing people to participate in voluntary social insurance and family health insurance.
Statistics show that in 2023, the entire Vietnam Post system has developed 13.47 million people participating in health insurance and maintained the number of voluntary social insurance participants at approximately 1.3 million people.
In the coming time, especially during 'Youth Month 2024', in addition to continuing to communicate and mobilize people to participate in voluntary social insurance and family health insurance, Mr. Le Hung Son also suggested that Vietnam Post youth union members focus on communicating widely to people about the disadvantages when workers choose to receive one-time social insurance.
According to Tran Hai Nam, Deputy Director of the Social Insurance Department (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs), in the near future, the social insurance policy will be supplemented with many new benefits so that people can truly see social insurance as a 'lifesaver', especially when they get old. Therefore, in addition to propaganda and mobilization campaigns to expand the number of participants, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs also hopes that Vietnam Post members and youth will actively disseminate new legal policies to the people.
Affirming that Vietnam Post always considers mobilizing people to participate in social insurance and health insurance as a political task, General Director of Vietnam Post Chu Quang Hao said that the program launched on March 16 is the starting step for a series of youth movements throughout the network, not only in March but will last throughout the planning year as well as the following stages.
Calling on youth organizations and members across the network to actively participate in the program, Mr. Chu Quang Hao shared: “Let the green color of youth and the yellow color of Vietnam Post spread to every region and alley across the country to expand the coverage of the social safety net to all people. Let every citizen have the opportunity to participate in the social safety net of our country!”
Vietnam Post leaders set a target of developing at least 2 members for each union member and each provincial post office to mobilize at least 200 new participants in social insurance and health insurance on the launch day. This will contribute to opening up opportunities for the majority of people nationwide to enjoy social security policies, especially those in remote, mountainous and island areas.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 8,000 youth union members of Vietnam Post combined with youth union members of localities to simultaneously carry out mobile propaganda, consultation, and development of subjects in the area, contributing to the completion of the program's goal of developing more than 14,000 subjects to participate in social insurance and health insurance.
Together with other youth union members of Thai Nguyen Provincial Post Office, Ms. Nguyen Huong Ly, a union member working at Thai Nguyen Provincial Post Office, directly advised hundreds of freelance workers on voluntary social insurance and health insurance policies at markets and densely populated areas in the area. "Many of them have decided to participate in voluntary social insurance," said union member Nguyen Huong Ly.
In other localities, according to preliminary records, after being mobilized by Vietnam Post youth union members, more farmers and freelance workers have understood the rights and benefits of participating in voluntary social insurance as well as the risks of not participating in social insurance and health insurance.
