Vietnam Paralympic Sports Delegation Departs for ASEAN Paragames 12

(HNMO) - On May 17, at the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Training Center, the sending-off ceremony of the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation to attend the 12th ASEAN Paragames was solemnly held.

The 12th ASEAN Paragames took place in Cambodia from June 3 to 9. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter of encouragement and congratulations to the Vietnamese Paralympic Sports Delegation. This is a particularly large sporting event in Southeast Asia for people with disabilities.

At the departure ceremony, Head of the Vietnamese Disabled Sports Delegation Nguyen Hong Minh said that the Vietnamese Disabled Sports Delegation participating in the 12th ASEAN Paragames has 164 members, including 16 delegation officials, 21 coaches and 127 athletes (including 2 guide athletes).

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong presented the national flag to the Head of the delegation.

The delegation will compete in 8 out of 13 events of the congress, including: Athletics, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo and boccia.

Following the successes of previous congresses and the success of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation for People with Disabilities is preparing to conquer the largest regional sports arena for people with disabilities.

This is an international sporting event with a strong humanitarian character and extremely important significance, aiming to promote good relations, solidarity, friendship, and mutual understanding among countries in the ASEAN region.

This is also a very fierce competition, gathering many of the top disabled athletes in the region and will be a great opportunity for Vietnamese disabled athletes to demonstrate their will and determination to overcome their own obstacles, while helping them affirm their desire to win, integrate and contribute.

In his speech assigning tasks, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation participating in the ASEAN Paragames this time aims to strive for the best results; conveying to international friends the image of the country and people of Vietnam for peace, friendship, friendliness but resilience, with a strong will to rise up.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong hopes that all cadres, coaches and athletes of the Vietnam Sports Delegation for the Disabled will be fully aware of their responsibilities as well as the honor and pride entrusted to them by the Fatherland, in order to successfully complete their tasks at the congress.

On behalf of the Vietnam Disabled Sports Delegation, weightlifter Le Van Cong promised to compete with all his might in a noble sportsmanship spirit to achieve the highest results at the Games.

Also at the departure ceremony, the Vietnam Sports Delegation for the Disabled received sponsorship from organizations, businesses and individuals.
