After the funeral, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Huu Nghia was moved to write in the condolence book: "The Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of Hung Yen province are deeply saddened and grieved by the news of the passing of comrade Khamtay Siphandone, former Chairman of the Party, former President of the Lao People's Republic. Comrade Khamtay Siphandone was an outstanding leader who devoted and sacrificed his whole life for the independence and freedom of Laos, for the happiness and prosperity of the Lao people. He made a great contribution to the revolutionary cause, the struggle for independence and unification of Vietnam. At the same time, he made an extremely important contribution to building, consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity and deep brotherhood between Vietnam and Laos. His passing is a great loss to the Party, the State and the Lao ethnic groups. We have lost a comrade and a close brother.
