On September 7, a working delegation led by Mr. Hoang Trung - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) inspected the production situation and the prevention and control of storm No. 3 in Phu Tho province. Accompanying the delegation were leaders of departments and offices of the MARD; leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related units.

The delegation inspected the production situation in Vinh Lai commune, Lam Thao district and the flood control work at Son Tinh pumping station, Cam Khe district. At the inspection locations, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company reported to the delegation on the proactive response to storm No. 3 in the province in general, and of Phu Tho agriculture in particular; the work of being ready to pump water to drain flood water, protect crops and property for local people.

Accordingly, in the face of the complicated developments of storm No. 3 (YAGI), on September 5, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Document No. 1384/SNN-TT&BVTV on directing production to respond to storm No. 3 (YAGI), in which it requested the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to focus on directing the harvest of the Ripe Rice crop to limit damage caused by storms and rains; strengthen the work of estimating and forecasting the occurrence of pests; recommend that vegetable and crop areas that are ready for harvest be quickly harvested; clear and dredge ditches and drainage ditches in the fields; direct the focus on quick and neat harvesting, especially for fruit trees that are old enough to be harvested (bananas, sour grapefruit, early-ripening grapefruit, etc.); at the same time, direct people to cut, prune the canopy, leaves, and clean up to create ventilation for fruit tree orchards to minimize the creation of great resistance when encountering strong winds, which can easily break trees...

Son Tinh drainage pumping station currently has 10 units, each with a capacity of 3.33m3/second, draining over 7,450ha, including over 3,600ha of agricultural land in 16 communes of Cam Khe district. To proactively respond to storm No. 3, Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company has operated 3/10 pumps to drain buffer water...

At the inspection, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung praised the proactive spirit and readiness to respond to natural disasters of the Phu Tho agricultural sector and the officers and employees of the Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company. He noted that the Phu Tho agricultural sector and related units, districts, cities and towns in the province and the Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company need to continue to closely monitor and grasp the situation and developments of storm No. 3; assign technical staff to closely monitor the base, closely monitor the developments of the storm; the situation of pests and diseases to have proactive measures to promptly respond and quickly handle the negative impacts of weather and pests. In case of being affected by rain and storms, it is necessary to urgently review the damaged crop area, propose mechanisms and policies to support people in the damaged areas to restore production... Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company assigns staff to be on duty 24/7, inspect, maintain and service pumps, clear water flow, be ready to pump out water when it rains heavily, prevent flooding, protect agricultural, forestry and fishery production of people in the area...
