UNESCO expert team appraises Lang Son Geopark dossier

According to the plan, the UNESCO expert team will visit 26/38 tourist attractions on 4 tourist routes of Lang Son Geopark in the districts of Bac Son, Binh Gia, Van Quan, Huu Lung, Chi Lang, Cao Loc, Loc Binh and Lang Son city.

Informing the UNESCO expert delegation, Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Duong Xuan Huyen emphasized that the province has identified tourism as a key economic sector. Therefore, in recent times, Lang Son has invested in building technical infrastructure in a number of potential tourist areas and spots; including Lang Son Geopark.

The province has also issued many policies and mechanisms, creating a favorable investment environment; promoting administrative reforms, especially administrative procedures to attract investment resources for tourism development. This is one of the important driving forces to promote the comprehensive development of Lang Son.

The province is striving to build Lang Son Geopark to meet the criteria to be recognized as a Global Geopark, in order to preserve and promote the overall heritage values of geology, culture, history, archeology, biodiversity as well as the unique landscapes of the locality.

The Standing Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee hopes that, with the experience and knowledge of the experts in this appraisal trip, there will be recommendations for the province in orienting and maximizing the potential of Lang Son Geopark associated with tourism development, creating new and sustainable livelihoods for the local community, contributing worthily to the socio-economic development of the province and the Northeast region...

Mr. Tuncer and Ms. Kristin, two experts from the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, said that the UNESCO expert team will conduct a field visit and then make the most realistic assessment, contributing to the development of Lang Son Geopark. The assessment report of the team is one of the important bases for UNESCO to consider and recognize Lang Son Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark...

Lang Son Geopark was established in 2021, by 2023, the boundary will be adjusted to 8/11 districts and cities, with an area of about 4,842 km2 and a population of about 627,000 people (accounting for 58% of the area and 78% of the province's population).

With the theme “The flow of life in the sacred land”, the province has initially formed 4 routes with 38 tourist attractions in Lang Son Geopark including: Exploring the world of the mountains; journey to the heavenly realm; rustic life on earth; road to the aquarium.
