Dak Nong has great potential for forest economic development. The province has over 196,000 hectares of natural forests and 58,300 hectares of planted forests. In recent years, all levels, sectors, units, organizations and individuals in charge of forest management and protection have had orientations to shape and build forest economic models.
Some forest economic models initially show suitability and effectiveness. For the form of forest planting with concentrated varieties of acacia, star, pine, and heartwood, agroforestry, and medicinal plant planting under the forest canopy... all bring economic value.

According to Mr. Vo Van Hieu, village 7, Dak R'mang commune, Dak Glong district, for many years his family has developed the economy by planting 5 hectares of forest with varieties such as hybrid acacia and long-lived core.
Some have been exploited, some he has just planted. He affirmed that the benefits from the forest economy are huge in protecting the environment, ecology, protecting water resources, and combating climate change.
Each hectare of acacia forest, after 5 years of planting, can bring in about 80 - 100 million VND. If the acacia trees are allowed to grow for 10 years before harvesting, they can earn about 200 million VND/ha. This is not a really high income, but it is enough for forest lovers like him to stick with it.

Dak Glong district is one of the localities in Dak Nong province that takes the lead in allocating forest land so that people can benefit from the forest.
For example, Ta Dung National Park is currently contracting out more than 6,000 hectares of forest to over 200 ethnic minority households living near the forest.
In particular, households are mainly concentrated in two communes Dak Som and Dak R'mang; Phi Lieng and Da K'Nang communes (Dam Rong district, Lam Dong province).
Mr. Le Quang Dan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: Forest economy is one of the spearheads of the Dak Nong Agriculture and Rural Development sector at present. The province develops forest economy, planting and processing medicinal herbs in a sustainable and harmonious manner.
The province has attracted a number of businesses and people to invest in a number of areas such as developing forests for paper materials and developing multi-purpose trees. The province encourages the expansion of combined agricultural and forestry cultivation in the form of contracting and investment cooperation.

Dak Nong has shaped a number of effective forest economic development models. Specifically, planting raw material forests, medicinal plants under the forest canopy, near the forest in Dak Glong, Krong No districts, agroforestry such as intercropping macadamia in Tuy Duc.
Forms of forest economic development are an important basis for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to advise competent authorities in directing and organizing the implementation of tasks of forest management, protection and development in the province.
Developing the forest economy is a way for Dak Nong to gradually mobilize resources from businesses, communities, organizations, individuals and households to participate.
This activity directly contributes to greening barren hills, improving the ecological environment, creating more jobs and income for people.
Dak Nong continues to effectively implement support policies on forest allocation; payment for forest environmental services; investment capital from enterprises and non-governmental organizations. This is a very favorable condition for the province to improve the effectiveness of forest protection as well as develop the forest economy.
