When people agree
This is also the common sharing of many ethnic minority families in Tam Duong border district that we recorded in the survey, collecting information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 (abbreviated as the 53 Ethnic Minority Survey) deployed nationwide from July 1, 2024.
Tam Duong is a mountainous border district of Lai Chau province, with a natural area of over 66,292 hectares, 13 communes and towns, 126 villages, 12 ethnic groups and over 57,000 people living there. According to the statistics office, implementing the 2024 53 Ethnic Minority Survey, Tam Duong district has 46/126 areas to be surveyed, of which 11 areas must be surveyed in their entirety: Ban Hon, Binh Lu, Ban Giang and Son Binh; and 35 sample survey areas with 1,954 households must be surveyed, focusing on ethnic groups such as Mong, Thai, Dao, Lao, Lu, Giay and some other Ethnic Minorities.
With the characteristics of a border district, the distance between villages is far from the center, the people live scattered, besides, the people are in the production stage, especially the time of the investigation is right at the peak of the rainy season, so the investigators encountered many difficulties in the process of investigation and information collection.
Overcoming many difficulties, Tam Duong district has actively implemented synchronous solutions, suitable to the local situation and actual conditions to conduct surveys to collect complete and accurate information, ensuring progress.
Ms. Pham Thi Hiep, the investigator in charge of Na Tam commune, shared: She was assigned to be in charge of Na Tam area, the whole commune has 700 households, she had to investigate 90 households in 3 villages Na Tam, Na It and Na Van. To complete the work, she fully participated in the training courses organized by the district and the Statistics Office; at the same time, she closely followed the instructions, criteria and contents that had been implemented.
“Because the people here are mainly agricultural producers and it coincides with the crop season, it is difficult to approach the investigation, but to ensure progress, I also tried to contact the village chief regularly to grasp the situation in the area, taking advantage of time outside of office hours when people have gone home from work, including Saturdays, Sundays and even at night to collect information to ensure the assigned progress,” said Ms. Hiep.
...No matter how difficult the task is, it will be completed.
One of the activities to ensure the progress and quality of the collected information for the Survey is that the locality has coordinated well with other localities and units to prepare well. Specifically, as soon as the plan of the General Statistics Office and the Ethnic Committee was available, the plan of the District People's Committee, the Lai Chau-Tam Duong Regional Statistics Office coordinated with the district's ethnic department and communes and towns to strengthen the dissemination of the content and time of the survey; selected qualified investigators who know how to use smart mobile devices; and at the same time organized training for investigators, especially during the survey process, focusing on monitoring, handling, and quickly resolving difficulties and problems... to complete the progress as well as the quality of the survey forms.
Thanks to good propaganda work, along with the enthusiastic help of local authorities and village chiefs, most people, when the investigators came to collect information, enthusiastically cooperated to provide accurate information for the investigators to complete their tasks, and at the same time hoped that their information would help the Party and State have policies to help ethnic communities develop further.
Mr. Vang Van Bun, Na It village, Na Tam commune said: We have also heard propaganda on the commune's loudspeaker, on television and were informed by the commune about the investigation, so when the officers come to investigate and collect information, we are ready to cooperate. We also hope that information about the living conditions and socio-economic situation of ethnic minorities will be the basis for the Party and State to have more appropriate investment and support policies for our ethnic people so that we have conditions to develop our economy - culture - society to a higher level.
With specific solutions, suitable to the actual situation of the locality, the facilitation of authorities at all levels, the efforts of investigators regardless of day or night, adverse weather conditions and the enthusiasm and cooperation of the people of all ethnic groups in the area, by the end of August 7, 2024, Tam Duong district had investigated 98% of the volume and completed the investigation before August 10, 2024.
