Upon learning of the devastating wildfires in Johannesburg, South Africa, which caused significant loss of life and property, on September 1st, President Vo Van Thuong sent a message of condolences to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa; and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan sent a message of condolences to South African Vice President Paul Mashatile.
Earlier, on August 31, a fire broke out and destroyed a five-story building used as an illegal residence in Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city. That afternoon, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the fire had claimed the lives of 74 people and called it a "great tragedy."
In addition to the fatalities, 61 other people were injured and are being treated in hospital.
To date, the cause of the fire remains unclear.
This was one of the most dangerous wildfires in the world in recent years.
