Largest fire and explosion drill in the country, many roads restricted traffic

Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality in the country to organize a drill on emergency response to fire, explosion, and escape in crowded places, expected to attract more than 7,000 participants.

On January 8, information from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC07) said that Ho Chi Minh City will organize a drill on how to handle emergency situations of fire and explosion and organize evacuation, fire fighting, rescue and relief at crowded places with the largest scale ever in the area of ​​Nguyen Hue walking street, Bach Dang Wharf Park and the area of ​​Wharf No. 3 of the City Passenger Wharf - Saigon River on January 11.

The largest ever drill on emergency handling of fire, explosion, and escape from crowded places will be held in Ho Chi Minh City.

The exercise is expected to attract about 7,220 people from 23 units such as Ho Chi Minh City Police, Army, City Command, Department of Transport, Department of Construction, Border Guard, Thu Duc City People's Committee... to participate.

The drill will also mobilize about 126 types of motor vehicles serving firefighting and search and rescue operations such as firefighting robots, fire boats, command vehicles, fire trucks, ladder trucks, vehicle carriers, multi-purpose demolition fire trucks, ambulances, etc. to participate.

According to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, the drill will handle three complicated situations at the event and festival sites, including the fireworks display at Thu Thiem Square - Saigon River and the ABC festival held on Nguyen Hue walking street (near Bach Dang Wharf Park) to celebrate the country's major holiday in 2025.

About 7,000 people will participate in the largest-ever exercise.

The situation is that a restaurant ship with license plate SG008 is leaving the port, on board there are a large number of people gathering to eat, drink and have fun when a fire and explosion is discovered. Many people are injured and trapped on the ship and some people lose their composure and panic, they escape by jumping into the river and a traffic accident causes two cars to be deformed, leaving four people trapped inside.

Fuel leaked from the truck and caught fire when it encountered a heat source. At the same time, the strong collision caused the chemical truck's tire to explode and the vehicle to tilt. Inside the truck, the plastic cans containing chemicals burst...

Colonel Huynh Quang Tam, Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that this is the first emergency response plan for fire, explosion, and escape in crowded places in the country, which has received great attention from the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department.

Thousands of people have joined the training to prepare for the largest-scale exercise in the country.

According to Colonel Tam, the nature of this exercise is very urgent and important, taking place at a time when Ho Chi Minh City is about to host major events and festivals. In particular, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will celebrate the important event of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) with many programs, festivals, culture, arts, and sports.

The exercise also aims to gradually supplement and perfect the plan for mobilization, deployment, and coordination of operations between forces and equipment to serve the work of ensuring security, order, fire prevention, and rescue for festivals and events with large crowds, especially the work of protecting the absolute safety of important people, subjects being guarded, and leaders of the Party and State attending, with the motto "4 on-site", not to be "passive, surprised".

Thereby, contributing to showing Ho Chi Minh City as a livable place, worth visiting, a safe destination for international friends.

It is known that in the past two weeks, nearly 5,000 people from 20 units have participated in training since midnight so as not to affect the movement and business of people in the training area.

From 8am to 12pm on January 11, Ho Chi Minh City restricts traffic on Ton Duc Thang Street (from the intersection of Nguyen Tat Thanh - Hoang Dieu through Khanh Hoi Bridge to Me Linh Square Roundabout, both directions;

From Ho Tung Mau - Vo Van Kiet intersection to the underpass under Khanh Hoi bridge); Ham Nghi street (section from Ho Tung Mau to Ton Duc Thang, both directions);

Nguyen Hue Street (from Ngo Duc Ke Street to Ton Duc Thang Street, both directions); Vo Van Kiet Street (from Pasteur Street to Ho Tung Mau Street); Dong Khoi Street (from Ho Huan Nghiep Street to Ton Duc Thang Street);

Ngo Duc Ke Street (section from Me Linh Roundabout to Nguyen Hue, both directions); Ho Huan Nghiep Street (section from Me Linh Roundabout to Dong Khoi Street).
