The VND2,500 billion project to build the Vietnam Military History Museum located next to Thang Long Avenue (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) is being rushed to completion to open to visitors in 2024.
The investment project to build the Vietnam Military History Museum is a special project, invested by the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army with a total investment of 2,500 billion VND. The project is currently being built at a location close to Thang Long Avenue (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi).
According to Dan Tri reporters, the main items of the project phase 1 have basically completed the rough construction, workers are rushing to construct the interior and exterior landscape, many artifacts such as fighter planes, military transport planes, tanks... have been transported to the display location.
The total project area is 38.66 hectares, designed with 4 above-ground floors and one underground floor.
The museum is designed in a modern, simple style and creates an intuitive historical flow, in harmony with architectural lighting and natural light; using a multimedia system combined with a directional sound system so that visitors can interact, bringing a new experience.
The museum has 4 floors above ground and 1 ground floor, with a construction area of 23,198m2. The total floor area of the main building is 64,640m2, with a total height of 35.8m.
Outside the main building there will be military reconstructions, displaying large weapons.
The completed project includes an indoor and outdoor exhibition system with 6 historical themes, 8 special topics, 7 collections and 12 military specialties of the Vietnam People's Army.
The C-130 aircraft, nicknamed "the workhorse", is the largest artifact on display in the museum's outdoor space.
This is the first generation of C-130 aircraft, using Allison T56 tri-blade turboprop engines, weighing more than 34 tons, wingspan of more than 40m, fuselage length of more than 30m, height of nearly 12m, including 4 engines, can carry 19 tons of cargo or 64 paratroopers, maximum take-off weight of more than 70 tons.
The M107 self-propelled gun, known as the "King of the Battlefield", was used by the US during the Vietnam War. The barrel is over 11 meters long, weighs over 28 tons, and fires only 1 round per minute, but has a maximum range of up to 40km. The M107 uses two types of ammunition: the M437 high-explosive shell weighing 66.6kg with a lethal radius of over 50 meters and a 15 kiloton nuclear shell.
The MiG-21 fighter jet with serial number 4324, which was flown by 9 Vietnamese pilots and shot down 14 American planes, has now been brought to the main hall of the museum for display.
The MiG-21, nicknamed "silver swallow", with serial number 4324, was manufactured by the Soviet Union and provided to Vietnam in 1967. In early 1967, this fighter was equipped for the 921st Air Regiment, 371st Air Division, Air Defense - Air Force Service. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, "silver swallow" 4324 took off 69 times, encountered the enemy 22 times, and fired 16 shots.
On March 10, 2015, the Vietnam Military History Museum held a ceremony to announce Decision No. 53 dated January 14, 2015 of the Prime Minister, recognizing the MiG-21 aircraft with serial number 4324 as a National Treasure.
The MiG-21 with serial number 5121 was recognized by the State as a National Treasure in 2012. Lieutenant General, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Pham Tuan once piloted this MiG-21 and shot down a B52 aircraft on the night of December 27, 1972. In addition to Lieutenant General Pham Tuan, pilots Dinh Ton and Vu Dinh Rang also piloted this aircraft.
The T-54B tank with serial number 843 is also one of the National Treasures on display inside the new Vietnam Military History Museum. This tank was transported from the South to Hanoi for display on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 1979), then was kept and transferred to the museum.
The 105mm howitzer was one of the opening guns in the Dien Bien Phu campaign (1954) and is on display at the Vietnam Military History Museum.
During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the Vietnam People's Army was equipped with 24 105mm howitzers, of which 4 were spoils of war captured by the French Expeditionary Army from the Border Campaign (1950) and the Northwest Campaign (1952), and 20 were aided by China.
Currently, workers are rushing to complete phase 1 of the project as planned, promptly putting the museum into operation, serving the public at home and abroad in the near future.
This is considered a meaningful project for both the past and the future, creating a highlight not only for the Army but also for the Capital and the whole country. The project will contribute to promoting the history, culture, tourism, and socio-economic development of Hanoi, being an architectural highlight, harmoniously connecting and preserving the architecture and landscape of the area.
