Condolences on the shooting at Charles University, Czech Republic

President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent condolences over the shooting at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, on December 21.

Upon hearing the news of the shooting at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic on December 21, 2023, which killed and injured many people, on December 23, 2023, President Vo Van Thuong sent a condolence message to President Petr Pavel, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a condolence message to Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent a condolence message to Speaker of the House of Representatives Marketa Pekarova Adamova and Speaker of the Senate Milos Vystrcil.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a message of condolences to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.

On December 21, Prague police were called to the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, near popular tourist attractions in the center of the Czech capital. They sealed off nearby Jan Palach Square and the area adjacent to the university building, located in a busy part of the city, and asked people living nearby to stay indoors.

Czech officials said the shooting left at least 14 people dead and 25 injured, 10 of them seriously.
