According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in April 2024, Vietnam imported 808,186 tons of wheat with a value of more than 221 million USD, an increase of 72.3% in volume and 68.2% in value compared to March 2024.

In the first 4 months of the year, our country imported more than 2.3 million tons of wheat with a value of more than 638 million USD, up 38.9% in volume and 5.8% in value over the same period last year. Notably, the average import price reached 277 USD/ton, down 24% compared to the first 4 months of 2024.
In terms of market, Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest wheat supplier. By the end of April, the import volume from this market reached 946,804 tons, equivalent to more than 237 million USD, a sharp increase of 261% in volume and 147% in value. The average price was 250 USD/ton, down 31%.
Australia was the second largest supplier with 493,428 tons in the first four months of the year, equivalent to more than 156 million USD, down 56% in volume and 60% in value compared to the same period last year. The average price was 316 USD/ton, down 11% compared to the same period last year.
Notably, since the beginning of the year, our country has imported 285,875 tons of wheat from Ukraine with more than 74 million USD, a sharp increase of 872% in volume and 658% in value. The export price is also extremely attractive, competing with Brazil at 259 USD/ton, down 22% compared to the same period last year.
In the Vietnamese market, our country almost cannot grow wheat, so every year our country spends billions of USD to import. In 2023, our country spent more than 97 million USD to import wheat from Canada with 252,803 tons, a sharp increase of 1,372% in volume and 1,142% in value compared to 2022.
